School dress code

You know these guys that wear their pants hanging below their butt so their boxers show and they walk around holding them up?..
That started in prisons with the guys that "swung that way" to advertise they were "available and willing"... if ya know what I mean

Actually, I heard it was because the prisons wouldn't allow belts - so that inmates couldn't use them as weapons/hang themselves with them - and didn't really care too much about providing well-tailored garments.

Ahem....from the relatives I have who were in jail when that whole thing started, the inmates who would be used for matters of the loins would sag their paints as a sign of "easy access"

That's what THE PR Officer would tell the media, Yes.
Coming from a family in law enforcement. Most of my friends are police, correctional officers and military ... I hear " straight from the horse's mouth" as it were.

First off, learn how to lift weights. Being strong ALWAYS trumps being weaksauce. Spend a year working on your squat and deadlift, getting up to cranking out reps at greater than 1.5X bodyweight, and the whole skinny jeans problem is solved. Simple - they don't fit, and wouldn't fit if you tried. You'll also have the mental benefit of a strong mind, as well as confidence in your actions. Plus, think of the fun you can have with really strong hips and the ability to lift a girl...

Back in HS, my school banned sweatpants. For a while before they were banned, guys would go commando, and induce erections and then walk around. Kinda funny, but inappropriate.

uniforms make dressing in the morning easy... and shopping ... wished my kids wore uniforms

and what's wrong with looking "neat" ... put on some decent looking pants, and wear a shirt with a collar, tuck it in, and wear a friggn belt...

Wranglers ... the original "skinny" jeans ...

To the OP,

Quit yer whinin' you don't have to wear a uniform, unlike me.

In autumn, winter and most of spring I have to wear:
a white shirt buttoned up to at least the second button and tucked in
A navy blue tie with light blue diagonal stripes (Gold stripes if you are a prefect)with at least 12 of the stripes showing below the knot
Grey or black trousers
Navy blue blazer with school logo
Black, logo-less shoes
Black, grey or white socks
A navy blue jumper with the school logo is optional

It hasn't done me any harm yet and I even wear my uniform properly.

My school (along with virtually every other in the UK) didn't have a dress code. We had a uniform.

So did we. Though I never understood how girls wearing (often sub knee length) uniform skirts looked any less provocative than girls in jeans/trousers. Not that I was against that

I don't really get that. Do they consider bags to be prohibitively fashionable? I'm not saying that's a bad rule by any means: I wish we had a rule like that because in elementary school, we were forced to lug 5+ kg bags full of books to school.

You know, considering all the people in the world that are standing up, rioting, and even dying for things like a government where the people have a voice, and big concepts like equality, or even a right to an education (they're not that concerned about the actual dress code of the education), an uprising over skinny jeans just makes your 'facebook riot' look like a small pathetic plate of dumbass.

My school has just put in place a new dress code that prohibits pencil skirts, skinny jeans and pants with holes in them.

97 people got sent home today because they weren't "dressed appropriately".

So far there has been one HUGE Facebook riot (400+ people joined it and lots commented then the group got shut down after 20 minutes) and tons of posts bashing the school an the new policies.

Any other schools out there doing something as drastic?

The dress code I believe, is primarily in place to take away distractions. Secondly if kids only view saggin their pants and wearing clothing that can be viewed as provocative as the norm, they will tend to seek employment or college enrollment looking the same way.

I honestly don't get the amount of animosity going on here for these kids (I'm almost 40). Also, I'm not sure what constitutes "skinny jeans" but perhaps that trend isn't happening where I live so much - and, are yoga pants all that different from sweatpants?

I remember when yoga was a spiritual activity, not a form of exercise - now get offa MY lawn!

Ok I am guessing this is to eliminate those tiny schoolboy ties. Please explain that to me! I've been wondering since I lived in the UK (3 years ago) and I have never gotten an answer as to why that is done. Is it just a sign of individuality within the uniform? Is it a special knot? Or are there ties made that length?

I first noticed it in The Inbetweeners and then with all the kids that would get on the bus.

I'm not sure there's anything drastic about that...carried to extremes, all three of those can be disruptive.

OTOH, I am sure that some students will find ways to tweak the system.

Example: our high school dress code allowed shorts. One guy came in wearing shorts so tight you could tell his religion...and he was a pretty hairy guy, and he shaved a racing stripe down the outside of each leg. Fame was achieved. So was a trip home.

Heck, in my school the admin forbade teachers from wearing beards. One art teacher grew hair under his chin, braided beads in it and called it a tie. The admin couldn't figure out what to do about it, so they ignored it.
