School me on P basses

P basses were an epiphany for me. I struggled to hear myself the way I wanted to in a band mix with various jazz's for years, then I bought a 50's Classic. Problem solved. The split coil just seems to inhabit all the right frequency ranges that singles had trouble with (particularly against two half stacks). While the J usually cut it in a 3 piece, it lacked when another instrument was tossed in the mix. That has never been a problem for me with a precision. Now I'm down to temporarily using a Geddy until my P arrives and I long for the comfy blanket of mids and bottom that a p provides in any mix.

I'm probaly a little late with my two cents, but being a Fender Precision bass player most of my playing career I always tell people who are interested in the P bass or as you put it "school them" to get one in your hands and try it out at your local music store or Guitar Center. Once done try another as no two basses are the exact same, however the P is not only simple, but are solid and true and a standard for any players collection...but maybe the bias is just starting to come out of my mouth :p
