Double Bass Scott LaFaro's Strings

I love Harold Land, that must have been a cool gig.
He's my very favorite tenorist....Blue Mitchell was a very funny cat.
Blue would play 'Smoke Gets in Your Eyes' and would walk around in the audience while playing it. This sounds kinda corny, but in those days everybody smoked, so it was very effective with the plumes of smoke going up and around the house lights while he played .....great memories.
This band ways racially mixed and when we'd take a break, Blue would say "We'll be white black"

I thought the Vaseline thing was kind of odd...

Once a month, I put olive oil on my strings...but I don't want them to be too greasy, because that is the same as using "fast fret" and I think your hand can get addicted to it after a while. In fact, I like the fact that I often have palmer hypo hyrdosis!!

I have a question about guts and humidity, and probably should not tack it on to this thread, but here goes:

The other day I played an outdoor gig down by the beach. It was drizzling, and I noticed that my e string seemed to be at the very limit of lowness...I could not tune it down to pitch very easily! It seemed to be literally flopping on the fingerboard..however, it still worked fine. Any ideas what caused this? or is my e just stretching with age?

By the way, reading the stories from Paul and others was too cool...I wished I had been the age I am now during the early 60's, when music was still awesome and adventurous.!!

How much of difference was it from before? Did tit go back to normal after.

Music is still awesome. I think we could all point you to hip stuff to listen to. Better in another thread though.
