Scotts Bass lessons lifer? pros vs. cons?

Scott does a great job in his niche.
Been a member since I could.

Now price is up to $100 yr. $200 for life.
Tempted.

I enjoy his work, but get a lot of insight from TB too!
MarloweDK has his share of riffs, advice & interviews.

Even some good French stuff out there, aussi! Allez!


What thoughts do y'all have?
Besides his great personality, what other value are you
benefitting from ?

I have not used the site but I had a student who did. It saved me a lot of work as he really just needed hands-on experience to help with some of the lessons.

I would say it seems to be a rather valuable resource. I also hear good things about Roy Vogt's Teach Me Bass Guitar, but that is a series, not a website.

I don't know anyone who teaches for even as little as $25 per lesson unless they are not really music teachers. OP, $200 for what you'd get from Scott seems like very little to me.

I stumped up. $200 is cheap for the content he offers. Though you can get a lot from his free lessons.

The Academy part of his website is already good, and it's only going to get better as time goes on. $200 for forever is a good deal.

It is not the same as private lessons. Most of us still need one on one with someone. I have another teacher who I trust to set my overall direction. The SBL site is more about filling in around that, for me. But his content is excellent, better than many other bass websites.

As others have said above, I couldn't look at SBL as a replacement for a live instructor - for me I would view it as supplemental to live lessons only. So when comparing costs; to use the cost of a live instructor as the benchmark would not be the right comparison. I'd have to compare it to other supplemental venues such as books mainly or other web based sites - some free. I own and have used Roy Vogt's TMBG series which might be a fair comparison. Although, I've never seen anything other than the free stuff from Scott.

From what I've seen lately from his youtube stuff, I'd not be so confident, myself. A significant drop in quality from what I've seen he's been able to do in the past. I find myself going elsewhere now. Saying that, I don't know exactly the content of the paid stuff. But if you're already getting that content, then you know better if it is worth it to you.

I've been watching his videos with free lessons for 2 years aprox. and I can assure you my playing has gone up to another level since then. I'm in no condition to pay that kind of money right now, but I'd like to. Yes, the free lessons have gone down a little bit, I think it's a strategy to attract people to his paying site and get more of what he's offering. Free is good, but a man and his family need to eat...

Courses on beginners guide to bass, harmony, bass setup, technique specifics, groove; access to the forum (which I have found useful for answering specific questions) & support of like minded bassists also seeking to improve; access to a regular bass hang with Scott to ask questions; logbook toolkit; access to recorded interviews with some very well known bassists (like Ed Friedland, Joe Hubbard, and Zoltan Dekany)...

I have found the site excellent value, and they keep turning out quality content. I'm happy with my spend so far.

Hey guys... whoaaa, great to see a lot of you are enjoying the lessons I'm putting out! :)

Just so there's no confusion, there is a life-time membership option but right now it's only available to Academy members that have been a member for over 12 months or more, hence why it's not advertised on the website.
