Hello, scrub here, im planning on buying my first bass in a month or so. Im pretty sure im going for the Ibanez SR300 and now i have to get the amp issue resolved. Ive heard that for starters a 10-15W amp but I have no clue to what a good amp should have, be, look like, brand etc haha. So if u have any pointers and suggestion give it a ball. Thanks.

a Gallien-Krueger Backline series combo would be ideal for a starter amp.

Since you mentioned that you are going to be purchasing your 1st bass I would like to chime in and suggest the Fender B-Dec. It is priced higher than an "entry level/starter" amp, but I think it will pay dividends if you decide to stay with playing bass...
I think if any other TB'ers have one they'll chime in and agree.
Ha, if Fender had put out the B-Dec & G-dec when I was starting out - man...I would have had a life time of playing under by belt by the time I was 15!

Good call on the B-dec, it's loaded with tools to help you learn. Otherwise, if you're using a teacher, any 50 watt 1x12 or 1x15 combo amp will suffice. Pick based on how it sounds, to YOU.
I started with a Kalamazoo Bass 30. Pair of tens, pair of 6V6 tubes. Right at the limit of easy one hand carrying. Today I would go a 100 watt single 15" ... I had this Quantum B115 for years was perfect for everything and slightly smaller than the zoo. You could play small gigs and if you buy a small combo with a built in DI you could run to Front of Hall PA's.

The problem with a post like yours is that you give us too little information. You have not filled out your profile so we have no idea where in the world you are. No age given so we don't know if you are a fourteen year old with no budget or a forty year old with several grand to spend.
An amp of the power you mention will last you, i doubt, even a year before you'll want to change it. Certainly you will be unable to jam with it. Please let us know where you live and what your budget is.

Well im 20 and budget wise I believe tops 200 bucks for the amp I believe, if I really push it maybe more, but this is pushing and really making a good investment; dont know whats the importance of my location jaja but im in Puerto Rico.
You should be able to find a used Peavey TNT combo, not the lightest but enough power and a 15" to rattle the walls and windows. Rule of thumb: Overbuy for your needs and go used until you are ready to step up to the big stuff. If you can find a used G-K Backline 112 or 210 in your price range, Just IMO, it would be a more versitile combo and not as heavy. The Fender I've found to be a little pricey for a first timer unless your daddy is paying?
Hey dude, I was in much the same state as you not too long ago, and here's my advice:
if you're keeping it under $200, get something used and you'll be able to stretch the cash a lot further.
Then, think about what you want to use it for. Is this bedroom practice (30ish watts)? Home entertainment/hobby (50-100watts)? for use with a garage band (100+ watts, depending on what everyone else is using)? or for a gigging band (200ish, 4x10, or more)?
Then, see what you can get for your cash. Like, if it was me playing in my living room I'd sacrifice power for some classic tones or neat features, but if I was trying to be heard with the rest of the band I would focus on watts and speaker size.
Also, and this is true for any first bass or first bike or first parachute or first snowboard or whatever you are in to, don't get all cheap on yourself. Pay a little extra to get something quality, that way you won't feel like you've outgrown it 6months later and be itching to buy a new fancier one. You'll actually save cash if you get something good the first time around.
+1 on the Fender B-DEC 30 as a first bass amp/on-going learning tool.

First Parachute? That was pretty cool Sharko. My first parachute was bolted on to a VINTAGE TOP FUEL DRAG CAR I bought. Come to think of it, that was the only parachute I've owned.

+1 on a used amp like a Peavey. Buying used allows you to sell it for about the same money if you move on to something else later.

SOOO the 15w thing is like jaja not at all what I should get then unless I plan on playing for ants right. And what are some thing I should look out for when choosing a used Amp; obviously I have no experience with bass or guitars etc.??????
The importance of location is that we have to know just what might be available in your area. It's not much use recommending that you buy such and such an amp if the amp is impossible to get in your neck of the woods.
I would take a look at Carvin.com and find out if they ship to Puerto Rico. They very well might and their equipment is first rate at a good price.
