I've made a wrong order and instead of a pair of Antiquity II's, I got Antiquity I on my Jazz Bass. So far I liked it, but regarding the great reviews, I was really keen on the II's. So I told the local dealer and it seems that they don't have II's. But I was also told that they can make a new order from Seymour Duncan. (with no extra charge) Is the difference between I and II worth the hassle? I see no distinct differences in the SD site... Anyone?

SD Antiquity vs Antiquity II

Having had both sets the II's are more of an overwound sound. Bass is woolier sounding,
they don't have as clear of a sound in the mids and are more aggressive sounding. Not a true vintage sound. The I's are a little softer sounding, alnico II's, but more even and more of a true vintage sound. Superb midrange, smooth and more balanced overall. I much prefer the I's. I think they might mate better with a pre as well. IMO.

that generalization doesnt always work. they dont put the same amount of turns on every set. my buddy in the classifieds just sold a set where both pickups were barely 8k. those wouldnt have been wooly at all. ive had sets that have read out as high as 8.8k. those were low mid heavy. both in the antiquity series are like that. people are going to have different experiences. its not like the sjb1's that are consistent.
its not qc. i talked to mj in the custom shop and its intended. they figure since the amount of turns varied on old fender pickups that they'd do the same.
i would have stopped looking too! i kept buying sets for a while and the neck pickup would be would anywhere from 8.5 to 8.9 and it made the set too low mid heavy without enough sparkle up top. i sent the neck pickup back to them and they pulled turns to get the dcr i wanted. after that, i was very very happy with those pickups. the variance makes it p.i.a. though.
