Double Bass Seattle

The truth does hurt:)
As far as egos ,well in this orch. business they are evrywhere(i thought bass players were cool laid back types till recently:mad:
Oh let's not forget HALL ROBINSON of PHILADELPHIA won when he was 43:D

How many auditions has Detroit had already? 6 now maybe? I am indeed a chill bassist, however this bs-ing around with auditions. Just hire someone. We ALL know that they've had many, many more than qualified applicants. I'm not the one with the ego here, that bass section is. Detroit isn't the only orchestra to do this.....anyone care to name others? San Fran. (3/4 auditions for the first man spot), New York Phil (section, advances nobody???), Concertgebauw (3 auditions now), LSO (4/5 auditions). This doesn't only happen in the states.

Now look here.
As is once told to me by someone very experienced and respected.
"Keep your mouth shut and keep your nose to the grindstone and never lose heart".
This forum is not the TRUTH.It's a place to hide and moan. The only way is to experience and live it ,you can't duplicate the process via talkbass.com forum.
Now looking back, all my most memorable moments were all PRE-computer age time.
It's funny how technology connects us but also isolates us.

I agree. Furthermore:
-many conductors are egocentric idiots
-many principal basses are egocentric idiots
-many people that play auditions that I've heard clearly have not bothered to listen to the music. They know the notes, but everybody on the panel can tell that this is pretty much it.
-when you feel like whining that those auditions are unfair, go to a concert or buy a cd. people will notice. all in good time.

cheers
