second guessing my choice of amp

I just bought an acoustic 100 watts combo and wondering if it would be
Loud enough for small gigs like coffee houses and such,it has a 12 inch speaker
I have one week to take it back and get a
Replacement,they have another acoustic
With a 15 inch speaker
What say you all?

Yes , your rig should be plenty sufficient for coffee house gigs.

B200 combo (1-15). XLR out to PA

Best bang for the $ imho

Wanted newer class D but made funny noises so I decided on Bergantino forte’
Vastly different $ tho!

I've played this jam at a little pub before where a good 1x10 was plenty (no drums there, though) and smaller pub jams (with drums) where I think it would hang. I've also seen "coffee houses" that were quite big, with a decent stage, where the band was a featured thing and not background music. Covering that with a good 1x12? Depending on the 1x12 in question, sure. With your typical, budget, 1x12 combo? Probably not -- or not in a very satisfying way.

A lot depends on the room and the acoustics, though.

Other factors -- schlep considerations, whether or not this is to serve as an only/primary amp, etc. -- the OP will have to judge for himself.

...and with this in mind, I'd encourage you to think about not only what would (barely) meet your needs right now, but what you might need 6 months from now. One good option might be to choose a combo that will support the addition of another matching cabinet if/when you need to expand in the future. (Take if from a guy who has a basement full of combos he no longer uses because he eventually outgrew all of them.)

Then Lobster, you should definitely join The Combo Club! If you have as many combos as you say you have, you owe it to yourself to share the goodness. Oh, wait. Oh...you outgrew them all.

Nevermind, unless you still want to join us. Then, by all means, look us up!

daveyo, you've got one of the new series combos, and while I don't know how large the coffee house is you'll be playing in, volume is usually never paramount to success in those establishments. I had the 50-watt, ten-inch combo and while I wouldn't probably use that one for your gig, I would definitely try your amp first before trading up. I've read good reviews on it, and for what it costs you'll have to pony up a bit to get into a larger combo, especially with GC putting them on sale all the time.

If you choose not to use it, I would drop it off ASAP because resale on that line is nonexistent. Have fun!

Use your ears and not the “watts” label on the amp, “watts” in some cases just means more heat. I have had small amps that were loud and big amps that disappointed. Also, if you have to turn up ( 60 percent volume or higher) you may want to add in a power amp and or cabinet. I doubt you want to add more so maybe just a different amp. I’m just the peanut gallery so take it with a grain of salt, hope it works out for you.

Yep, @Lobster11 has got it. I love combos for their convenience, but I try to get the most "pro" or full-featured combo I can get. Here's my current rig, Ashdown ABM EVOII 2x10; 325W @ 8 ohms. When I need a little more, ABM 1x15; the amp is now at 4 ohms, putting out 575W, but more importantly, more speaker surface area!!

This rig can handle anything I throw at it, & I have less than $600.00 invested...

There are a myriad of companies, including Acoustic, you could look at to build a versatile rig like this.

Combo + 4x10. Super versatile.
