Noting to report I'm afraid. I went to see my bass last October (more or less on the year since ordering) just before it went to the finishers. Shortly after that I changed my p/up spec from Bartolinis to fat stacks and that is the last contact I had.

I must admit that I can't remember the last time I played either of my sei.s. I really like the 5 string but it has a very noisy volume/led push pull control which I have to get sorted. The 4 string headless will never be played because I just don't like headless instruments (don't ask me why I bought it because I don't know - it is in the reject pile with my Warwicks now).

I only play my Rickenbacker and Fender Jazzes now.

I am really hoping that my enthusiasm returns once I get the call. It's going to be a very expensive mistake otherwise.

Howie, don't go 'loosing the faith' at this stage! I would expect your bass to be back from the finishers and very nearly completed (especially if it was your compartment cover I saw on the side the other day). Give Martin a call and find out what stage it has got to and let us know because I sure am looking forward to seeing your bass! :hyper:

I also had a similar noisy volume / LED pot on the SEI 5, which was very quickly and cheaply replaced by Martin...just a little bit of maintenance!

Yup, noisy pots are a pain. You can try this to sort it though...

Open up the back of the bass, put some kitchen towel around the neck of the pot and in the base of the cavity and squirt some WD40 in the slit in the pot (only if you've got the little red straw which comes with the can otherwise it goes everywhere). After spraying turn the knob of the pot quickly and fully back and forth a few times. The kitchen towel will catch both the excess WD40 and the crud which gets flushed out. You might have to do this twice to flush the pot out completely.

Doing this I managed to cure the horrid crackle on my Charvel 475 ltd edition platinum crackle geetar which also has active electronics by the way...

Hey guys - been off the radar for a while. Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year.

Careful with the contact cleaner - Martin used pots on my basses that are sealed units and need replacing if they scratch (that's what happened on mine). Contact cleaner won't get into the sealed pots. Plus using too much cleaner in mine caused me to hurt the LED circuit (Martin not impressed lol). My advice would be to get them replaced, it costs very little.

BTW - my fretless is fast turning into my main goto bass, it's an unbelievable instrument - it's settling doen and my god, THAT GROWL!!!

Definately putting the fatstacks into my fretted at some point.

I'll think I'll just use the contact cleaner for my geetars then !!

Good to hear you like the fretless experience that much. I got into playing 6 string fretless and it's a blast (apart from when you hear Marco Mendoza play and it makes you want to go and cry in a quiet corner :crying:).

On another note, found that Def Leppard and Whitesnake are doing an arena tour in the UK. Pre-sale tickets went on today, but they were standing only and I can't do the standing thing anymore !! Now have to wait until Friday morning :scowl:

Geez, 2 of my favourite bands in one night :bassist::bassist:

Hi Guys

Does anyone know if the above bass fits in a Hiscox case or not, or what other case you would recommend? I was thinking with the shorter physical length whether a guitar case would be better than a bass case. I currently have it in a Ritter bag which is OK but I'd rather have something more solid.

Any advice would be welcome.

Here you go Sei bass in Hiscox case as ordered. Not a headless but it fits the flamboyant body shape to a tee, and you could easily pack the end with foam so that that it did not slip :D Seriously I would speak to Martin once he gets back from NAMM and see what he suggests as I am sure he has been asked this before.

I have a headless Flamboyant Six that fits perfectly in a hardshell case made for "regular" guitars. Ken Wittman of Wittman-Spins (http://www.wittman-spins.com/) turned me on to the concept. (I had one of his headless bases original built for the bassist in Santana.) The specific model I use is a "Road Runner Electric Guitar Case, Rectangular, Model Number RRME07." The SKU number is 6 56238 00403 9. Enjoy!

Finally I have seen the light... well my bass anyway - first time since September - and bloody hell dudes - she's amazing! :hyper:

I was ferreting through the various basses that were in the workshop today and Mt Lindsey's is looking so stunning it hurts 0 but then out of the three Sei's that were in - there's mine.. have a look now fellas:

Yeah man - I wasn't expecting it to be there either so it was a really exciting moment to 'discover' it just sitting there - I'm hoping the finish is now perfect - I couldn't spot any imperfections so hopefully she'll pass Martin's very high standards... as far as the NAMM trip does while I'm the guys will had some time for R&R it's also a chance for them to do some genuine business with all the US suppliers like Fodera, Nordstand, Epifani and F Bass (they are Canadian right?) - the groovy Kevin Lindsey had his lovely Nordy 5 string jazz at the Gallery yesterday and Martin apparently was so impressed he's probably going to order a couple in - they are really lovely.

Hopefully more news soon but I'm so stoked that I'm now on the home straight with my bass and just seeing how unbelievably gorgeous it looks has only enhanced my faith in Mr Peterson's masterly abilities - John's too - these guys really some of the best in the world!

Hey Paddy - more than happy with that name - but I was thinking of Bunny Bass (I know there's a website of the same name) - but at least the full facing on the back will preserve some of the bits that will be covered by the pups and bridge on the front.

My amp is an Epifani 502 and I'm currently running that into a 1x15 EBS proline cab - which sounds cool but I also want a 1x12 UL Epi cab so I can take the damn thing out on smaller club gigs. I think the Sei will sound truly awesome through that... finger style -tastic.

I've just joined a 7-piece funk band so the Sei should be getting out and about for some funky action pronto...yay!
