Cheers dude - I'm expecting a REAL baby soon and that will cost me way more than another Sei bass...

As it happens I am thinking that in a few years - more like two or three - I'll order another Sei but I'll save up for it first... I know it's an addiction but considering I thought I'd never be able to afford one this whole thing has shown me patience really is a virtue - as the good things really do come to those that wait.

Killin' Ben - really great - my next bass is (seriously) going to be an ultra-cheap 4 banger for knocking about town with... maybe an Ibanez or a a Tokai jazz... once again - love the tune and the playing.

Actually got around to recording with my Sei for the first time.

I found out that the XLR bypasses the pre-amp and that monitoring the input on the desk it seems to have a lot of noise. However, this does not translate onto the recorded track and is an easy way to get things down.

The regular jack output went via my ART Nightbass where it was treated to a little eq, a little compression and an amp simulator.

The XLR sounds a little thin. The jack sounds a little better. Together though, they make a big, rich, bottom end which blends well with the acoustic guitars and the clean electric that is on the track so far :D

Now I just have to add the rhythm electrics, lead electric and all the vocals and it'll be done :bassist:

Hey man - this is the easiest way I have found - and you just do a track at a time without the whole MYspace hoo-ha:

Just create an account - compress your song as an MP3 or similar then simply go through the 'upload' wizard - add some comments to the song - a lot of nice people use the site so you get constructive criticism and compliments and we can all hear you new monster bass... PM if you need any more help.

sei24bass, Noting to report I'm afraid. I went to see my bass last October (more or less on the year since ordering) just before it went to the finishers. Shortly after that I changed my p/up spec from Bartolinis to fat stacks and that is the last contact I had.

I must admit that I can't remember the last time I played either of my sei.s. I really like the 5 string but it has a very noisy volume/led push pull control which I have to get sorted. The 4 string headless will never be played because I just don't like headless instruments (don't ask me why I bought it because I don't know - it is in the reject pile with my Warwicks now).

I only play my Rickenbacker and Fender Jazzes now.

I am really hoping that my enthusiasm returns once I get the call. It's going to be a very expensive mistake otherwise.

Howie, listen up I saw your bass on Friday and IMO it is off the scale...:bassist: It is truly beautiful and purfling around the neck is just lovely. Whilst it did not have a bridge or strings, the only thing that is holding it up are the Nordstrand pickups (common complaint I believe as they seem to be one of the most popular pickups of the moment).

Martin has chased up Nordstrand and asked me to let you know and thank you for your patience. Hang in there it really isn't long now and it REALLY is worth it...WOW! :eek::eek:

Spoke with Martin last a couple of days ago and seems that my bass is progressing in leaps and bounds! All the shaping should be finished in a week or so... However I don't know if I'll be able to get to London before mid-March to check the neck shape which will hold things up...

Thanks for the heads up sei24bass. I am really pleased that others in the Sei community think it looks ok. If you don't mind me asking, how does the Thuya look now that it is back from the finishers - is it very dark or can you still see the slight colour variations?

Seeing your messages out of the blue this morning has cheered me up no end. Thank you.

Purely by coincidence I was thinking over the weekend how stupid it is to have instruments of the Sei quality and not use them so I have both of mine with me for rehearsals tonight - noisy pot and all.

The colour is very similar to the SEI 8 and in fact the variations you mention are more apparent on yours than mine. One VERY tasty bass that has achieved the rare trick of giving me some serious GAS! :D

Re the noisy pot, I learned to leave the volume on full and use my hands to totally control the volume. Whilst I did get the pot fixed in the end (£15 total cost), I felt it helped my playing technique no end!

Anyway, let us know how the rehearsal went and also if you want me to ask Martin anything (I will hopefully be up there later this week).

I've a quick question for everybody !!

Which strings do you all use ??

For many years, I've used Elites and never really worried about trying all the different manufacturers. But the DR's given to me on my Sei were great, lasted well (I probably could have got some more mileage out of them before I changed) and felt really smooth as well.

As the DR's aren't cheap, I replaced them with a 7 string set from Overwater. Whilst these are good strings which a lot of people buy/prefer, I haven't got on with them at all :rollno:

So it's back to the DR's I think !! But which type comes equipped on a Sei. I can see Fatbeams, Hi-Beams, Lo-Riders and Sunbeams !! I base my sets around a 45-105 set... so something like 125, 105, 85, 65, 45, 30, 22 (but where does the lightest string comes from...:confused:).

I was much easier when I had a 4 string :hiding:

7 String, first of all sorry for the delay in responding both to your tasty composition and also the query re strings. I have tried a good number of sets (by no means exhaustive testing) and prefer DR strings to anything else (Elites would be my second choice if pushed). DRs seem to have the best combination of tone, smoothness & longevity for me.

That's OK, I know that people with 'normal' lives can't read the forum as often as I can!

I was flabbergasted at what a difference changing strings could make, not just to the sound but to the setup of a bass. My beloved Sei went from amazingly low and wonderful action to buzzy and rattley is one stroke. OK, the strings were lighter but I've never experienced such a marked difference before. Also, the strings have lost their tone already !!

As I said before, they're probably great for some players, but just not for me...
