As for me, I may well have some news but will tell all when Martin gets back from NAMM in a couple of weeks or so…![]()
Well, that was a long couple of weeks! The supply of finished basses and new builds seems to have dried up a little, so I’ve rectified this by ordering another multi-stringed monster from Martin!

Specs for the bass are currently:
- Ripple ash single cut custom shape chambered body
- Flamed maple through neck, with Wenge stringers (35” scale length)
- Amboyna burl front & back body facings
- Honduran Rosewood burl front & back headstock facings
- Fretted jet black ebony board with Honduran Rosewood burl position inlays (amboyna burl @ octave)
- Single Delano pickup (Musicman style) & Audere circuitry
- Possibly piezo or midi or both!
- Black hardware
- 9 strings (tuned low F# through high A#)
I’m really excited and proud about this bass, as it is my own design I’ve been developing over the last 6 months (with the ever excellent input from Martin). Whereas the SEI 8 was a modified version of the flamboyant template, this design started life as a blank piece of paper. It is quite a curvy design that blends many of my favourite design elements seen on a variety of basses...somewhat different to the standard SEI shapes. Martin seems really quite excited about building it which is also really nice!
