Selecting a vocal mic. (PV-I?)

hey, kid. return that crappy pv-1 mic. it's not worth the money. save you're allowance for another week and get a real microphone. Don't look as deep as your wallet is. Plan for a better future. Why wait until you buy a good PA? You'll be spending enough money on that, that you won't have the cash to get a nice mic. Do yourself and your bandmates, and everyone that hears you sing a favor, and buy a NICE microphone. You will never regret it. Please, listen to reason, and better judgement!

Is there a point to your post? Why make OT posts?
You didn't even name the mic properly, it's a PV-I (as in "I see you."). Further more, I've yet to hear any user opinions on it. Lately, Peavey's been winning awards on things. If I end up not liking the mic, I'll return it and get the SM58 or D-880. However, my expectations aren't very high.

Further more, where do you get off being condescending or attempting it? It appears you're preaching 'save for better equipment' when you're playing on a squire and MIM. :rolleyes:

I have no problems with MIM's but don't post in other people's threads trying to flame them with OT jargon.

Honestly, for your intended use, I'm sure that the PVi will be just fine.

A lot of us have been playing for a long time and won't waste our time and money on cheap gear. Often spending a little more to get something decent pays off over time compared to buying the cheapest thing you can find only to discard it later.

For rehearsing through a cheap P.A. you probably wouldn't appreciate a better microphone anyway. Once you have some experience and better gear, save up for a better microphone.

I'm sorry. I came off wrong. What I mean is, save for the shure. It's been proven many times over. And I play a MIA(merica) Jazz Deluxe. And my squier is the first bass I ever owned. It's more sentimental thatn anywthing. And I still play it. It has bartolinis in it, and has the most unique sound I have heard on a bass of that type. And furthermore, I didn't mean to be condescending.

I understand. I appreciate your help, you've been very helpful. I know I'm not getting a long-lasting mic, but hey, even if I need a new one, I'm sure it'll make a decent back-up.

I wish I could spend more, I was looking at Shure's before I even bumped into the PV-I, but all the ones I've seen are near $100, aside from the PG series. I'm not keen on Shure's series, but it seems that the PG series is the cheaper of the two. I'd rather not take a chance on a cheaper series and have it crap out on me, even if it would sound better for the time it would work.

Right now, I'm in the process of 1) getting a new mic. 2) getting a new amp (Peavey BAM 210) and 3) chipping in with my band mates to purchase a PA.

I really don't have $50 more to spend on a mic, at the moment.

You say the PV-I is 59.99? Well a brand new Shure 58 can be had for 79.99 So you need another 20 bones? Wash a few cars my friend, mow a lawn. You will be sorry you bought the Peavey and it will end up at the bottom of the gig bag. Spend the extra scratch and get the shure. Buy one used if you can find it (maybe a pawn shop) and you'll spend about the same cash. You'll be using that shure until the day you die.
Take the sage advise thats been handed to you and don't repeat the mistakes many of us have already made buying cheap mics.

At a local store, Musician's friend now sells Peavey and is selling it for $47.99, which is where I bought it from.

My current income comes from mowing lawns, which provides me about $50 a week. With $50 a week, it's not probable that I'll be able to swing the Shure any time soon, considering I'm not only saving for a mic.

This is not meant to be condescending at all but I use Shure SM-58's at work on a daily basis and if you can afford one, you'd would be better off in the long run. There is a reason why they are the industry standard. They are tough, sound great, and IMO reasonably priced. If you were to buy an SM-58 today I'd wager it would still be working great in 5 or 10 years. I don't know if anyone can say the same about the PV-I. I have wasted my money on buying something cheaper/inferior because I was impatient but I can say now that I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone.Save your money and wait a bit longer. You'll be glad you did. I don't work for Shure but I have been very satisfied with their products for the last 13 years.

Geoff, HE DOESN'T WANT TO HEAR IT!

We've all told him exactly this, but he's got a boner for that Peavey thing. We're just going to have to live with it.
