Actually in our system we don't have direct democratic presidential elections, we have the electoral college, which doesn't necessarily mean that the majority wins; this has happened twice in history. It keeps urban America from forcing its will on rural America.
Morf, it's nothing to do with you being French (not for me - and by the way, you'll notice I'm not American, not that it makes any difference to what's been said by either of us). It's just you posted from the start in a way that makes it clear you think the offcier was at fault, without accepting the possibility that there may be another way of seeing this, in a thread where emotions are clearly running high. Then when your views drew the inevitable hostile response, you escalated the situation by making personal attacking comments and even threatening violence (over the Internet???) twice now. Now think about this before responding and see if you don't get where all the flak is coming from.

As for my silly concept, it is just as silly as calling me a wuss, or whatever other insults they used to get me angry. I make it a point to stand up for myself when people are insulting me, wether it is to my face or over the internet. I wont fly to the US to smack him one in the mouth, but I won't let him call me a wuss without saying a word either. IS it silly? Yes, indeed it is. But insulting someone on the internet as they did is just as silly, I'm just dropping down to their levels, its amusing
