Selling gear to pay bills

I certainly feel your pain... In the early 80's I sold a Rickenbacker 4080 - 4 over 12 that I bought for $800.oo to a pawn shop in Dallas TX for $300.00 so we would have money for food and gas to get home. I sold my $900.00 Fender active PJ in 2002 on Ebay for $350.00 to pay some bills and buy food. Just a couple of years later I sold my late Fathers 1962 Fender jazz bass to the vintage instrument department at the Guitar Center in Dallas to pay medical bills and car payments for $2500.00. I no longer own a bass... I could go on and on about amps and cabs but it would be a long sad story that I don't think I want to re-live right now...

We've all done it for sure, ......I don't go with the argument that you can always buy the same stuff back either, I couldn't afford for instance, to buy a Rick 4001 now, to replace the one I flogged some years back, they're too expensive these days !

I have had good luck on Craig's List. I have sold a few basses, an amp and some car parts that way. Do your research first; know exactly what you have and price it fairly based on what you've seen.

I haven't had anyone even try to haggle with me for whatever reason. I'd like to think it's because they also did their research and knew what I was asking was fair.

PayPal or cash only on those deals, though.

Luckily I have an old friend from elementary school who is gonna come down on sunday to check out the amp. Gonna let it go for $275, it's exactly how much I need to make the first payment so here's hoping the deal goes down smoothly. Yup, younger guy in my mid 20's been playing for almost 10 years. I'm hoping after I finish school by late 2019 I can get a good career as a dental assistant. I don't have any kids (nor do I plan to) so I'll be able to afford a nice rig later in life. Hopefully a 4x10 cab and a tube amp! I've always wanted a nice tube amp one day and maybe then I can start gigging again. Until such time I hope to get lessons after I pay my bills so I can properly read and write notation.

I totally get it. That's how I felt when I sold my first Fender P bass back in early 2012. I sold it to a music store, occasionally I still think about who eventually bought it and where it is now.
