Selling off my heavy PA-going with powered stuff.

Now the macro is out I took some units out of my cube. And mounted them in the rack I had the macrotech.

First report. This report is only after a test run in a large room (not a gig), together with our new 16-channel C1648 Carvin mixer.

Briefly: they sound awesome. I myself couldn't hear what the bass sounded like going through them (I stood too far back and didn't have a long cord into my DI box), but the reports from those upfront were good (these speakers have a -3db frequency response down to 42 Hz, much lower than most). Probably won't need a sub. I got to listen to the other instruments through these mains and things were incredibly crystal clear. Our guitarist did an excellent job on the mic'ing and EQ at the mixer which I am sure helped.

Our next gig is at a very small place so these will be overkill, but hopefully we get to try them out in a larger setting soon.

PM me if you need help.. we've been using one for 2 yrs now.. very powerful.
It's also pretty simple to use once you get the hang of layers and selecting channels.
You can keep it simple or get complex.

Make sure you connect it to a dual-band router (2.4Ghz is REALLY crowded) and install the X32-Q (or M32-Q .. midas version, same software) to control monitor mixes, and Mixing Station Pro (the B*ringer app equivalent only runs on iOS) on your tablet..
Make sure your table supports 5Ghz wireless connections.. it should.

I have mix station and the x32 q installed have it running off the router at 5g that was my goal yesterday. Going to hook up to a pair of speakers next and just get some sound going through.

His focus is on the full-sized X32.. so while the principles are the same, the Producer layout changes some of the mechanics.. but good source.
The PC-base X32 app is also pretty good.. I don't have it hooked up to the X32, and mostly use it for "playing around".

So now my set up is:
X32 producer (samsung tab a 32gig tablet)
Drive rack pro
Then depending on my mood and the room
Crown Ce1000 watts for monitors or mains.
Turbo sound IQ12s for moniters or mains.
JBL Mpro415s for mains if iq12s are used as monitors.
Yorkville 1 x 12s for monitors if IQ12s are used as mains.
Turbosound IQ15B subwoofer.

I own 2 QSC K-12s. Quite simply the best speakers I've ever used. I'd buy two used K-12s. For larger shows, rent a pair (or even 2 pairs) of QSC K-Subs. Each unit is 1000 watts. Loud and clear.

I did a trial loading of my prius today to make sure the new set up all fits which is one of main reasons I started looking...Took two tries but got it all in with both my AK bass cabs..quite a relief.

I'm thinking of going the other way - passive speakers so I can lift them onto speaker poles without requiring back surgery as the cost of powered speakers with class D amps is still a little much.

I guess "a little much" depends on ones perspective. . We have an EV 15's (EKX-15P) over 18's [EKX-18P] PA that we use [maybe] a half dozen times a year. They are easy to move.. and sound great.. but NOT budget items..
