Yeah I have heard that going to check out some turbosound stuff too arranging to try the new milan as moniters
The subs I own are Behringer 18'' cabinets that are loaded with Eminence Omega Pro drivers. They are heavy and hard for one person to manage. I may keep them and install Behringer plate amplifiers in them.
Use caution! What would you prefer running all over the stage you're standing on? Power cords, or speaker cords? Also keep in mind that you can run multip0le speakers from a single amp, but each powered speaker has its own power input, so you'll have to find considerably more outlets on stage. Plus, the weight of the amp in an active cabinet is now in an awkwardly-shaped speaker rather than a universally-shaped rack. You can place the amps next to your power source minimizing the amount of hot power cables there are on stage, but do not have that luxury with powered cabs. Finally, you're not really saving weight; you're merely putting it in the speaker cabinet rather than the rack.
You are saving weight by not owning a rack, also space in the vehicle when hauling it back and forth from the gig. Microphone cables for the powered speakers are also generally cheaper than speaker cables, they also can have multiple uses unlike speaker cable. My bands main speakers are powered JBL 535s which are a 3 way cab. To do this passively you would need 3 channels of amplifier with a crossover built in or an external crossover also more speaker cables. Good luck making an average passive speaker sound as good as a powered speaker. Probably need a drive rack type processor so more expense and rack space.

A high end speaker cable is just a thick as a power cord. Powered speakers allow the user to get rid of heavy rack cases and actually tend to be more balanced than passive speakers. Powered speakers can be plugged into....power strips.....and share a run.
Other than that, I disagree with you other assertions.
You are saving weight if the powered speakers are class d and your power amps are not. For me I am wanting to save space and weight.

The biggest savings are with the small digital mixers. We just had a 16 channel mackie in a small rack with comp and reverb and it was bulky and weighed like 60lbs. The dl1608 is 8lbs, fits in a laptop back, is more affordable and has way more capability than multiple racks of old school stuff. Heck, have you ever lifted a 100ft 16/4 snake? Then lift a router and ipad. Perhaps not adequate for pros/golden ears but more than adequate for this weekend warrior.
I had similar misgivings about the additional power cables with powered speakers but after taking the powered plunge I definitely prefer it. So easy to set up, tear down and go modular.

Cords are routed away from where we stand/move. They wont occupy anymore space than cords going to the lights. I will lose the rack and amps. The jbl eon 612's weigh less than my Yamaha club series top(amplification built in.)
I ended up ordering a turbosound IQ15B and a pair of IQ12s, Should have them for our Halloween gig.
Your going to love them! I got my 15B last week and it's a great little speaker except for the weight. Used it tonight with the iQ 10 on top for my bass rig. Very tight, focused bass from that sub.
Decided to keep my subs (they are heavy but rock.) I found 2 new EV sub amp modules and that will allow me to run these without outboard amplification.
The JBL EON's have a 100HZ High Pass Filter when used in it's "SUB" mode.
What does your sub have? In order for not to sound like crap you should have a low pass filter on it.
Man you want to save some weight pull one of these out of your rack..
great amp but I am not going to miss lugging it around. Had it in a gator rack wit a crown CE1000. Which I am going to keep to run either monitors or my Mpro415s depending on my mood.
