I have been thinking about listing my pair of powered QSC HPR152F's as I am no longer the band leader in charge of (owning & schlepping) all the equipment. I'm enjoying being "the bass player" quite a bit. I have the speakers, stands, and for the right interested party/price a very nice & lightly used Yamaha MG166CX Mixing Console & Road Runner Flight Case for it also. I am open to reasonable offer for it, as I need the space, and I'm starting to G.A.S. for another bass. PM me if interested & I'll be happy to work someone a nice deal for the package.

No we actually were at work making money so we could buy better quality speakers.:D I actually broke down and bought a Behringer xr18 to use as a backup for my QSC touchmix.

if you're ok with 2 ohm woofers that is... look under the hood of those prx's... 612m's were not one of my better moves... I took the hit and moved on.


K12's in bags. About $1400 delivered from ProAudioStar. new. 6 yr warranty. no need for a sub unless you are really pushing the kick and Bass guitar through them LOUD. I've done a ton of gigs with kick and bass in them at reasonable volume with no issues.

Yes, it is over your budget. But obce, cry once. You won't regret it. One of my low end competitors in sound just migrated to K series from Alto monitors and Behringer powered mains. He seems super happy with the change.

if you're ok with used, track ebay seller fplogistics. They seem to have a pipeline of out of box QSC K and KW stuff...

I'm of the opinion that every band should have a set of QSC K12s. If you can afford them, get them, whether new or used. K12s are the standard and it's proven by the fact that whenever the subject of powered speakers comes up almost all other speakers suggested are compared in some way to K12s. Our band's rhythm guitarist picked up a set of well used K12s last year and they really are amazing both in sound and reliability. They've been our front of house speakers ever since.
There are other speakers that are also really good and notably cheaper than K12s... EVs, JBLs, Altos, Behringers and others mentioned in this thread. All of them sound pretty good, but none quite as good as K12s.
I myself own a pair of EV ZLX12Ps which our band uses as monitors. They are really, really good PA speakers, notably lighter than the QSCs and because I bought them new, they look a lot better than our K12s. The LCD display is ridiculously easy to use to set them up. We would not hesitate for one moment to use them front of house but we hardly ever do because well... we have the K12s and beat up as they are those still end up in front. The ZLXs are fantastic, but just not quite as good as the QSCs... neither is anything else.
So again, my suggestion is get a set of K12s if you can in any way afford them. But if not, any of the EVs, JBLs, Altos or Behringers will do. When you finally do upgrade to K12s (and you will...) any of those will make fine monitors :)

Or you could save yourself a $100.00 and buy some Yamaha DXRs which sound as good as the K12s.:D They also have a longer warranty and I have read on the internet they sound better when pushed harder than the QSC

I'm actually seriously considering replacing the EVs with a pair of DXR10s, mostly due to the lighter weight. It's more of a sideways move. The DXRs are fantastic speakers, but sorry they're not K12s. However they're really, really close :-)

I bet you couldn't tell the difference between the K12 and the DXR12 in a blind test. Your wallet might notice the price difference though.:) If the k series is so great why would you even consider the dxr10? Why not by K10s instead. BTW the DXR10 is not a sideways move compared to the EVs you have. They get a lot louder and the EVs are not even bi-amped.

We have a pair of EV EKK 15's tops and pair of EV EKK 18 subs.. I was VERY impressed by sound quality of those.. and they are NOT cheap either... but a no-brainer to setup and use.

The reasons I'm considering DXR10s for monitors is simple. Here the DXR 10 is half the price of a K10 and it's lighter. If these were for FOH I'd be looking at K10s, but we already have K12s for that.

Did you get your models mixed up?:confused: The DXR10s ae the same weight as the K10s. Yamaha makes a cheaper model known as the DBR series. They are lighter and cost about half of what the K series go for.

I am. I have 2 iQ15's and 2 iQ10's. Just ordered one of the iQ15b subs. Running them all through an x32 and couldn't be happier. Mostly they live in my studio but Ive taken them out a few times for outdoor shows and they did a great job. The 15's are a little heavier than I like and I'm kind of wishing I'd gotten the 12's instead. The 10's are amazing little speakers for their size, been taking them out as stand alone speakers with my uprights.

The DBRs are in fact the ones I looked at last week. And now after realizing my error I have to agree that yes the DXRs being the higher end Yamaha powered speakers are most likely right up there with the QSCs. I've honestly never actually heard a set of DXRs, so I really cannot say.

Well the dxrs are in the same league as the k series but they are cheaper. I had a Yamaha DBR12 that I used for 6 months as a monitor and also a bass amp on some gigs . It worked well but I traded it in when I bought a pair of DXR12s. The DBR sounds fine but not quite as good as the DXRs. The cabinet material is also different and feels more flimsy to me.

Another vote for K12's. And yes I bought them after extensive research and comparative listening with many of the brands listed here. To my ears, the K12's simply sounded the best, and after using them for about three years, I remain very satisfied with my choice. I also use a set of EV ZXA1-90's for monitoring which are amazing speakers at 19# each.

QSC and EV brand reputation and my previous experience with their products also influenced my decision.

While I personally chose K12's - there are certainly a lot of really good powered speakers out there, and used translates into more bang for your buck.

Thanks for the feedback. My "plan" (if there is one) was to get 2 iQ15s and an iQ18 sub. But, I also like going lighter wherever possible so maybe I should consider going 12s with a 15 sub? This would be my first set of PA gear so I'm not quite sure how much I'd really be giving up going a little smaller. I should note most of the venues I play have PA support and the ones that don't are (no surprise) smaller rooms. But, there is the occasional outdoor gig as well.
