Sennheiser HD-280 or Sony MDR-7506

Aye, I have such bad impulse control. I went out and bought the HD-280's yesterday. They're great headphones, however I've been reading that they take a long time to burn-in before they sound truly great. Also, one bad thing is that they are so clear that my favorite album, Californication, sounds so horrid because of all the insanely clipped tracks. It is so poorly mastered it's even referenced in this wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war . Guess I'll check out the unmastered version again.

Anyways, I tried both the HD-280's and the 7506's at guitar center and I liked the HD-280's more. They had better bass and blocked outside noise far better. Sony's were excellent too though.

I hardly know what a lossless rip is... I just run a CD through my Onkyo and B&W's or vinyl on the 1200's. I just like to hear the air and room around me as I listen.

Heh, you got me there. For me right now, full glory (compact/portable) = lossless rips with mid-range headphones. For home use, lossless + soundblaster x-fi + logitech z-5500 is good enough. I haven't been busy at work all week and I have gone from knowing very little about audio to knowing a lot. Been reading hydrogen audio forums and audiophile forums and wikipedia all week learning audio encoding, decoding, ripping, tagging, organizing...and now I'm at headphones

I'm kind of leaning towards the Sony's right now. I want bass in headphones but not overwhelming where it muddys the mix. I need to go find a place to test some headphones. What kind of places carry these? I'm thinking of going to guitar center later to see if they have these models.
