Setting up a clean Pedaltrain board: tips & tricks thread

I've got a question for you guys...After you have removed the rubber feet off of the pedals where do you keep them and/or how do you re-attach them if you take them off the board later. If they are screw on feet, it is no problem but the stick on ones normally lose their "stickyness".

Just buy new ones. You can probably get 'em at Home Depot. I wouldn't worry about this hurting the resale, they're pretty much interchangeable and nobody would notice the diff.

I have a little shelf in my music room where I keep all the pedal boxes that my pedals have come in. For certain pedals I have removed the rubber feet and even the battery doors in some cases to facilitate mounting the pedals on my biard. So I keep anything associated to each pedal in ite original box.

Certain pedals required a little creativity to mount on my board. For instance, my Fulltone bassdrive has 4 rubber feet that have screws in them to hold the pedal together. I didnt want to remove these obviously so I discovered that 2 or 3 floppy discs stacked up created a base that fits right in between the rubber feet and is the same depth as the feet.

This worked really well as I used black electrical tape to run uner the bottom plate of the pedal and around the discs.

This makes for a very secure mount that does no damage to the pedal. The black tape comes off easily if needed and I ensured that the signature inside the pedal wasn't covered in tape.

From the top, you cant see the discs at all.

I did the same with my white Dunlop wah pedal and it worked really well.

When you buy a new pedal, you don't want to mess it up too bad with sticky adhesives if possible so that the re sale value isnt diminished if (and when) you decide to sell off the pedal for something else.

i do the smart thing when using velcro! I turn the backplate upside down so i dont use the actual back of the pedal. For instance, My Moog's backplate is screwed on but i just flipped it over and it wont hurt the resale value ;D

Haha, wow, good idea! That way if you need to use it off the board, just flip it back over and you've got the feet again. Nice.

I just snagged a PT-2 from MF scratch&dent, so I'll follow this thread.

I'm going to veer a bit OT here, but man am I pissed at Musician's Friend. Last Thursday I ordered my PT2 hoping it'd be here by early this week. Typically, orders I place with them arrive to me in 3 business days.

My order didn't show up for on line tracking for days and so yesterday, I called and asked (very politely)..."what's up?"

I was told that my order was "lost in the system and just sitting there." Thanks to my call, I was told my order was now moving again and would ship soon.

"Ship? ...um...when?"
"I don't know."
"Can I pay for expedited shipping since the order just "sat" for more than three business days?" I really want my order to deliver soon and I will gladly pay for the extra shipping costs to make that happen!
"Nope. Sorry, can't do that now."
"When will it ship??"
"I don't know."
"Holy crap! You mean that I placed an order business days ago for an in-stock item and you can't tell me the status of my order -OR- when it will ship??"
"That's right. We're having trouble with our warehouse. It's new. They're having problems and there's nothing I can do about it and there's nothing more I can tell you."

What the hell?! These guys are better than that. Man I am NOT happy. Not only does the communication suck, these guys can't even manage my expectations!

I ordered my Pedaltrain Jr. from Magdon music. I bought it off of Ebay, they had it listed for $99.99 but I did a best offer of $85 and they took it. I had it in two days. Their ebay ID is magdon1. Highly recommended.

Same thing happened to me two weeks ago with Guitar Center (same company). Ordered a Pedal Pad pedalboard that said it was in stock, didn't get it for a week, called and got the same stuff about the new warehouse, and cancelled my order. Glad I did as I found my new Pedaltrain used for $100 which is cheaper and turns out to be a much better choice for me, but it sucks for you- sorry to hear it.

So here's a couple pics of my new board- took me a few hours to set up. I'm a bit of a neat freak with cords, so everything is held down in the back with either wire clamps, twist ties, or zip ties. There's enough room for a Meatball on there if I move a couple things if anyone has one they want to give me

i use the industrial strength velcro on my PT-Jr. i get it at my local ACE hardware. at some point, i'll organize the underside cable runs a little better, but i've got them all intertwined for now. nothing's really loose, and all the cabling stays quite snugly close to the board.

i've never liked any of the velcro that comes with pedal boards. it's the quality of the adhesive that bugs me.

I have been in some of those warehouses when delivering stuff and they are huge and lots of stuffs. they propably have to count the amount of items too before they relocate them

I understand transitions are never easy and that warehouses are big. I also understand that when a business undertakes a major transition, it needs to be well planned - with contingencies in place for when things don't go as expected (because they never do). Seems to me MF failed in its planning here...period.

What I don't/can't understand is how that can be an excuse for more than a week now -without giving me any further information on my order. Not where it is, not when it will ship, not when I can expect delivery and most importantly - how they'll make better.

As of this morning, its the same bullcrap story. This time, though, I got some swell adjectives like "pandamonium" and "insane". The guy on the line told me that "even the C.E.O. is in the warehouse working on the floor". If that doesn't make my point about poor planning and execution...

Anybody know where I can get a PT-2 with soft case in Chicago? I'm going to start calling around because these guys aren't coming out of the weeds anytime soon.

I'm going to veer a bit OT here, but man am I pissed at Musician's Friend...

A touch off topic, but I placed a special order for a Spector ReBop 5 DLX FM lined fretless at the beginning of June because I'd previously done the same with my SWR Mini Mo' in 2004 and it had gone smoothly. A Stroke worth of issues later, the order was finally placed with Spector (PJ Rubal is keeping me updated with the truth, great guy that he is) at the end of August due to the complete incompatence of their Special Orders department. It's now due sometime in November, 3 months later than my order date. But that's a story for another day...

My pedal one has to due with the Micro POG that I ordered early this month. I received the package in the usual timeframe, but it contained their typical spam paperwork, the power adapter... and nothing else. Since then I've been going in circles trying to get them to authorize mailing a new one, but apparently it has to be cleared by their "Lost Merchandise" department first and it's too high-priced an item to do so. The fact that I've spent about $5,000 over the past 5 years, have been a customer since I was 15 mailing in my orders (I'm now 31), and have threatened to take my sizeable buisness elsewhere has gotten asolutely nowhere with them. I too can understand the wearhouse issues, but the biggest problem is that they're not keeping the customers they screw over happy. No % off my FUBARED order, no replacement, not even a decent excuse. Their one saving grace which was still a screw-up is that I ordered two Planet Waves Link Removed for my board, and they sent me two industrial boxes containing 5 apiece, around $52 in free merch that I have no issue in keeping after everthing. So anyone that would like connectors like these at a discounted price, PM me!

...but zippydog, great idea for a thread, and Bryan, wonderful tips for a clean board. My ideas are 95% the same as yours, I'm simply waiting for my Micro POG before I lay mine out "for good". (a looper may be in the future around Giftmas, but I'm planning to leave room for that) This MF.com holdup is delaying so many projects, including... :scowl:

Sorry to learn of your MF problems - make mine look easy.

There have to be more of us affected here on TB by the MF meltdown. I've been thinking about starting a specific thread elsewhere to draw some more attention to MF's problems, then send the thread to them once its big and juicy. I can't believe how rotten they are at the moment and I know we're not alone in that POV -they need to hear it.

I'll get it rolling, but any ideas where to start the thread? Anywhere I do it, it'll be OT, but I'm thinking the "Bass Guitar" section, since that has the most threads/traffic and will therefore be seen most.

Anyhoo - back (again!) to where we were... Ian, please drop some pics in here when you get your board set up -sounds like it'll really be cool!

Are those little white squares hooks to secure the wires to?

I've used these before to guide cables under a desk for keyboard and mouse on a slide-out tray. I bet these could be found at office max or depot.
