Setting your bass on fire

Used to do a bit of stage magic. Flash paper and a concealed launcher isn't tough to rig up, and shooting fireballs is probably more impressive than just lighting a bass on fire. I could put one on the back of my headstock, easily. Except after that Whitesnake thing, any sort of pyrotechnics is really, really frowned upon in most venues without a ton of expensive licenses and insurance and fire marshall approval, etc.

Right on. Page 7 of the thread and someone has first-hand experience with this kind of thing on stage.

Could you go into more detail about your stage magic experience and how you use flash paper and a concealed launcher. Shooting fireballs does sound more impressive. I got excited just seeing those two words together: shooting fireballs.

Prior to Great White, many of us probably would've just thought "meh...bass on fire...it's been done but if that's what he wants..." and not given the matter much further thought. Now though most of us realize how dangerous a fire in a nightclub can be and we don't want the risk.

The Cocoanut Grove fire back in the 1940's killed 300+ people IIRC, and although the exact cause is not known, the leading theory is a match that wasn't fully extinguished. A mere match...

I was considering buying a cheap bass and doing just that. But I think it would be "cooler" if it was my regular bass that I play during our set instead of switching it out for a beater just to light it on fire. It kind of loses some of the effect doing that.

This is our first gig this year since our singer moved back. I think there will be a decent crowd at the club (100+ people is decent for us).
Even Jimi switched guitars for the stunt

His reply at #124 just goes to show he's gonna do what he wants regardless.

"All lies and jest.Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest".

+1 I noticed that also and it sounds just like my son. You might want to speak with the club owner first you could cause an incident that might result in them losing their license and you getting a permanent band from any club in a three hundred mile radius.
