Seven Chorus and Three Phaser Comparison

I remember seeing a few Night Witch mentions but I didn't look hard. I'll check it out. As for the 99, I'm not sure what I'd do with TWO Phase 90s in this case... Are the LFOs independent? I'm always trying to get a deeper cut, not more slices, if you know what I mean, which is why I like the old Small Stone. A family member used to have a Mu-Tron Bi-Phase that I always used to fiddle with in my youth, and that to me is the ultimate of what I'm talking about. Too bad they're so sought-after now.

You should definitely check out the Night Witch. The Fuzz side is really great too, although probably a little light on bass. I asked him to make me a standalone phaser, but it didn't happen.

The phase 99 is independant or synced, depending on where you have the button set. It can get really cool playing off itself with a low and high speed. It's a killer pedal, although my Script 90 reissue is a great one if you want a nice simple phaser.

I'll have time tomorrow so I can do a simple demo of the night witch and the 99 for you. Let me know what settings you are particularly interested in for the 99.

I'm not super into the metallic quality of heavy feedback so much as jet sweeps, if you know what I mean. Nice one, thanks.

I'll try my best. Check in by 4pm or so. There is no depth control on the 99, but there is a resonance knob on the night witch I'll play with. Night Witch also has a 4 and 8 stage toggle.

Two best phasers I've tried are the Phase 99 and the MSL Night Witch. The Night Witch in particular nails that chewy "The Warriors" sound of the 70's to a T. Excellent on bass.

Warriors come out tp play yay.

Ok, here is the Night Witch set to 4 stages. I start on low resonance and turn it up as I go along. I do that with the speed and ramp too. It'll be fairly obvious when I turn the knobs as the sound will get more resonant.

Night Witch at 8 stages. Same deal as before.....I play around with knob settings and speeds. I switch back to 4 stages at the tail end.I also kick on the fuzz section at the end too.

Wow, that 8 stage has a lot going on. I'm not a huge more-than-4-stage guy, but I really like the way the 8 stages are synced in the Night Witch. The fuzz portion sounds good, too. Thanks for the demo. Great pedal. The 4-stage sounds a little more conventional to me, but it sounds voiced for rock for sure. I think when people say they don't like the Phase 90 it's because it's a little more R&B/Jazz/Soul/Funk and they want something more like this. The strong resonance really gives you that thing that the Phase 90 will never do.

I’m going to have to try the Julia again, I had ones years ago and remember it being pretty warm. I need to give it a shot again. I really like the 80’s cold chorus bass tone, and it felt warmer to me. I liked the EHX Bass clone tone and the Eddy, but EHX build quality just feel so cheap to me.
The Alexander Sugarcube looks super interesting, but maybe too much tweaking for me

The Night Witch is a very special phaser. If you can swing the price, it's totally worth it. I'll try to put together the phase 99 today.

With the SA Lunar, can I suggest the CE-2 Chorus and Quad Chorus Options. I love the chop tremolo patch and the Lesliemr patch is great too. The stock 8 stage Phaser and the stock 4 stage Phaser are great.

I feel I should have waiting with buying the jam Ripple. Together with the CE-1 setting on my Md-200 it sounds soo nice I'm immediately gassing for a ripply fall.

Jam makes excellent pedals. If you like their Ripple You will love the WaterFall Chorus. The ripple is a subtle Phase and yes it does sound good with the Fall. I had it separate and wanted more than a 4 Phase type sound. Nothing wrong with you liking it with the chorus but it was too little of a sound for me. But again at times it works great which is why i have the little MXR 95 phaser. You can go back and forth with a 4 to an 8 phase.

If Jam made a 2-stage/4-stage phaser (or beyond), I'd be first in line. I've bought two more Jam pedals since this chorus search and they really are some of the best effects out there. Really impressive.

Unfortunately only a 2 stage. I made a mistake earlier saying 4 stage. I bought the Ripple and sold it right away. For me it was too subtle. The Waterfall is such a dominate chorus that it didn't change it to much. Again you may want to try the MXR 95, MXR make great phasers. But its nice like Jam pedals make a all in one. If the 2 phaser is right for you than I say get it. But again the Phase 95 and Waterfall make a nice combination.

For bass I do think the Ripple is indeed too subtle, but right now I'm using it with my bass VI and when playing chords it sounds amazing. Still subtle, but it just adds that little je ne sais quoi to everything

I felt it was designed with none of my goals in mind. You can see how popular it is, and I get it. But boy, I really didn't connect with it.

I settled on the SA Gemini (for now) with one MXR style phaser, the “stock” Classic Chorus, and a more flangy type ballad chorus for the 3rd spot. Sounds killer in the headphones and pretty darn good in my practice room ... eagerly awaiting a return to steady gigs so I can wield this thing in the wild to see how it holds up in the mix.
