[sfx] micro-Thumpinator review video

Hey everyone, I just posted this on the [sfx] thread:

I just completed a review of the micro-Thumpinator. Thought you guys might like to check it out. I talk a lot at the top of the video for people who don't know what it is. I take a look inside after that and then run it through the EQ of Ozone 5 to show it at work. I found it cool to see the hpf working as well as hearing it. I didn't put it through a live speaker cabinet because Max already has a great vid showing that on his web sight. Anyway... here you go:

Cool. I got a Micro Thumpinator from Max a couple months ago. It is a great tool. My sound is much better with it. I have 0 regrets. Probably the only gadget I ever bought that I didn't start to have remorse about. 100% on board with the Micro Thumpinator.

This may be a stupid question, but despite all my reading I still can't figure out what the Thumpinator does that cutting everything below 30hz on an EQ doesn't?
Dialing down the lows on my G-K head does not equal connecting my Micro Thumpinator. Not even similar. Maybe if I had a graphic EQ that has a 20 or 30 Hz slider it could replace it. Whirlwind Bass 10 maybe. That looks like a nice graphic EQ. But the controls on the bass head don't do what the Thumpinator does..

A typical EQ has a very shallow slope, like 6 to 12 dB per octave. The Thumpinator has a very steep slope, like around 30 dB/oct. IOW a regular EQ cuts a lot above the nominal frequency point, and doesn't steeply cut everything below that point. The Thump does not cut anything above 30 Hz, and it cuts the bejeezus out of everything below there.

Just a note to mention that you can get the Thumpinator circuit installed in a custom pedal: I had a 3-channel preamp/DI made by Max and the Thumpinator is always on.

In my pedalboard (the loop is -> Empress Compressor, always on -> TC tuner -> Boss OC-2 -> volume pedal -> Zoom B-2, not visible and on bypass most of the time).

It sounds amazing, both live and in the studio!!!

Anyone know if Max will set a custom frequency for a Micro-thumpinator?
I'm talking to my guitarist about cutting his lows up to ~150Hz, but we don't need balanced I/O's or anything else the big Thump has.
Also, i'd like to cut my signal up to around 70Hz,

You might want to look into the Fdeck HPF-3 which has a continually adjustable frequency from 35-140 HZ and is highly regarded on TB - $108 shipped.

It is a High Pass Filter consisting of two filters - one fixed HPF at 35Hz and and adjustable HPF from 35-140 Hz.

While I can dig this, i don't need phase reversal, a preamp, or really anything other than a HPF.
The Micro-thump is the perfect size for both my guitard and me, but all we need is different HPF frequencies.

I don't need the preamp (which is transparent) or the phase reversal either. But the HPF's work great.

And a lot of the Micro's size is that it's Not adjustable.

And the Fdeck is less than half the price.

Good luck.
