To each their own, but neither Novak nor Sentell sound like a Mudbucker to my ears, the latter is actually being sold as being the exact opposite of the original, and that's fine.
I would love to hear Novak's PU in my own environment, though, instead of basing a full-blown opinion on a YT clip.

Yeah i was wondering about the sentell, the description sounds like the opposite of what I want. The Novak 'bucker demos I can find are either of the BS or a custom wind, his actual description sounds like it's the hot mid-heavy sound you'd expect but I can't say for sure. I've decided to go with the Electra which is a 70's bass so if I do decide that the pickup needs a swap I'll drop him a line and see what kind of promises he can make (and if I do that I'll be sure to put up a DI file so you can reamp it into your rig if you want)

I did own an EB-0 and an EB-0L at the same time. The longer scale is clearer, but I don't think of either as having any kind of growl.
I haven't heard it but at that price you can buy an original. The only advantage of buying his replacement sidewinder is that you can have it custom wound to your specs.
I guess that it depends on how one defines "growl". The long scale one growls nicely in my book, with thick roundwounds.

Maybe growl is the wrong word. There's a certain tone I associate with them but I'm bad at putting sounds into words so I'll visit that later. Are the original Gibson pickups easy to find? How would I know I'm buying an authentic one?
What are these roundwounds you speak of?

I had flats (La Bella Flexible Flats) on it for a bit and didn't like the sound at all...so yeah, for flats-only-players, likely no growl...

The Epiphones are great basses. Have a buddy who's been playing the same model as yours for probably 12 or 13 years.
Anyone out there used GHS pressure wounds on an SG/EB bass? Looking for new strings for mine and I've been thinking about trying these. I would normally just go with Pyramid flats but looks like they are too short. I currently have some Diaddario tapes that I like but the don't want to stay in tune.
I've tried Labellas and Rotosound monels but the E string wasn't great on either. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I've got Pyramids on my J bass. I'm going to put a fretless neck on it (and Hipshot black bridge and tuners) and the new GHS Tapewounds (no short scale for now; only long). I play 45-105 Curt Mangan Nickel Wound Lights on my SG. Would love to hear some feedback on the GHS Tapes. The Pyramids play and sound good, but require a little more tension than I'd like.
