SG & EB Bass Club

I got this SG bass a few months ago and gig it regularly in a 1960s band. I always preferred single-coil pickups before but am enjoying the thicker tone of this bass. The best thing about this SG is it doesn't neck dive ( see pic below). This is only my second ever SG bass, the first was as a youngster and it was a Columbus. I was also glad that the previous owner had replaced the bridge.

For some reason Gibson/Epi has decided to re-name the EB-3 as SG Standard. To me they will always be "EB-3's". I don't give the slightest ratz@$$ what 'they' call it. My first bass was a 1966 Gibson EB-3.

Well, there are differences between the two but, yes, the SG Standard is a "kinda, sorta" copy of the EB3.

And a "nice" example of an EB3 will command a higher price on the resale market.

Between those two basses and that amp, that is a quite a setup there. Will you be taking them home with you, or will this be your Massachusetts rig?

Well the amp weighs about 120-130 lbs so that's staying here. I'm probably taking both basses. They both sound great. I out Mike Lull pickups on the T-Bird, modeled after the 60's pickups, I love the way they sound. The EB-3 sounds really good too, it was modded a little bit to allow full range on the neck pickup with both on. It's got a really nice chunky sound with a pick hand muted. I got that for about a grand, great deal. My usual rigs out here are SVT's, that B-15 is the big brother of the usual B-15n's and is pretty loud.. Still got the two in my avatar photo.

Yes, 2003,2004 ish, was when the SG Standard was introduced. No selector switch .......

I think they "decided" to call them SG's about twenty years ago. The pickups and wiring are different, I got a beat '65. It looks better now, this is the photo he seller took. I cleaned it up.

Though I only used the selector switch on a few songs I miss it on my latest SG Bass!

I've never been a fan of V/V/T, on any bass. I would mod it immediately if I owned a newer 2-pickup SG bass. That's just me though.

Looks like you put a Dimarzio in the EB-0. Is the EB-3 stock or have you modded it? I was just curious.

When I bought Epiphone EB3 some 3 years ago, came with 3 original tuners, one generic.
Epiphone EB0 bought last year, 100% stock.

Some months later, bought a Dimarzio DP145 pickup and Gotoh GB528 RES-O-LITE tuners, which are in EB0.
EB0 original set tuners went to EB3; original EB0 pickup is stored.

Mental myself note: when mention EB0/EB3 always use Epiphone

Nice! What do you think of the MFD pickup in the G&L? I really like the one on my Fullerton Fallout shorty.
