An Epiphone EB-0 (not an mij one) came up locally. And by the time I got back online from making a coffee it was gone. Was in as new condition and I could have got it for $200 I'd say. That would have been less than half price than the cheapest new one here in Oz would be. Prefer something mij locally to come up. There is one in Sydney, a Greco long scale EB-?. But by the time you factor in fuel costs ( sky rocketing here grrrr!) and tolls, it can work out an expensive round trip waste of time if you don't like it when you actually hold and see it. I have seen Fenders and good mij Fender clones come up locally. But no SG style stuff. Except for Epi mentioned..
From what I've gathered, the smallest string spacing they offer is 17mm and it goes up from there. It would make for an interesting project if I owned an instrument that would take it...
There's a fairly rare and unusual bass in the local ads that I've got to talk myself out of, but even if I don't it already sports my favourite - Schaller roller - bridge so I'd have to look even further...decisions, decisions...
How far away from Sydney are you ? I always look at my "shopping excursions" as possible fun experiences, whether I end up buying the item or not...obviously, YMMV.

I gave my son an Ovation P Bass copy with a Kahler Tremelo bridge with roller saddles and adjustable string spacing. That bridge too is a massive, well engineered piece of hardware. The ovation is a well built bass that plays great. It always stays in tune too with great sustain. The only mod I did was a bone nut and a pair of Quarter Pounders.
Those basses got a bum rap because Ovation took several thin layers of maple and laminated them into a high strength, stable body. People thought they were cheap ply-wood. I bought it at a clearance sale with a HSC.
Don't people know a lot of top end guitars and basses are veneered or capped with nice wood?
This is not mine - mine was red but with same bridge and whammy bar.

Fender standard is 0.75 inch between string centers, for an overall width of 2.25 inches. This is 19mm in metric.
Gibson is somewhere between 2.0 and 2.125 inches total. Even though the pickup pole pieces would be visually misaligned, they would probably still work okay. But the strings would fall quite close to the edges of the fretboard.

Ovation always had its own thing going while Charles Kaman was in charge...a unique and brave designer he most certainly was, whether one likes his stuff - I do for the most part - or not...
300km to Sydney and back. There are routes, once you get to Sydney, that you can avoid tolls on, but it can get really congested, and like most people, I go bat crazy in a jam. Actually I prob go more crazy than a calm person he he. There is a rare Yamaha MIJ bass I would love to let out some Gas on, but like I mentioned, if is not a take homer, I just wasted some moolah. I can't stand Sydney anyhow. Lived there quite a few times, in nice parts of it too, but still hated it. No sir, my hands can't handle a Magnum anymore othewise I would've bought one a while ago...love the sound of these beasts.
I do, however, own several Ovation guitars, both acoustic and electric.

Correct. I don't know if they still make it over there, though. When I was growing up many harvests ago that candy was sold all over the now-non-existent country...

I've never seen a Morris EB-3 but have owned their copy of Martin D-45 which was pretty darn good...

That Mansfield Bass ( Hoshino Gakki ?) and case even looks like a real Gibson!
A poster on the site I got pic from states that the Mansfield has the same model number as an Ibanez 2354LB I Just Picked Up A Mansfield Sg Bass As Well! Pre | My Guitar Buddies Mansfield was, presumably, a Canadian import brand. And of course it was Ibanez that triggered the Gibson filing of a lawsuit, which never made it to court. Also, Madeira brand was owned by Guild...look at the bridge on that bass...a concept straight from the Guild design book...
