Will look into Ibanez or Greco long scale EB-0. I know they did EB-3 long scales. Try as I might, I just can't get over the hump of buying something with something on it I don't need or want ie a bridge pickup. Fair enuff, I have bought basses and pulled a pickup out of it, so I guess I could do it to an EB-3 if I had to.Pretty sure both Ibanez and Greco had their versions.

Regarding BEAD, it's ironic to me that I now want to give BEAD a whirl on an SG shaped object, the shape of which was implanted in my brain by Angus Young, whose in a band where low B is unheard of. Cliff Williams, Acker Dackers longest serving bassist, had no desire for low B, in the band context at least, and basically eschewed 5 stringers. But I'm into reggae too, and BEADG is pretty common these days. I don't do 5 stringers, so the next best thing is a minor hack of a 4 stringer to get that B.
I've made em out of the insides of ac/dc adapters.
Here's one in cigar box git I made. I used 2 rectangular ceramic magnets
Cost me a few bucks all up to make one. Of course, I'm not suggesting such a thing is appropriate for a proper bass. But I guess it kind of qualifies as roll your own. Or at least using something rolled for another purpose in a new context. Can't say I was the best craftsman to ever walk the planet though he he

I've had it on my brain for the longest time, but wasn't able to snag an example before moving out of the U.S. so...TBT, I shouldn't moan, having brought back 16 guitars and basses...
As for the bridge...why not just throw in a Hipshot or Babicz ? It's not like the end result was prettier or more functional, at least IMO...
I would love to buy those pickups but then I would have to buy a Bass to put them in!

A few years ago I actually bought a Seymour Duncan Bass pickup that didn't work…cheap on Ebay. I Ohm'ed it out with my DMM and it was open. I was going to buy the wire to rewind it but once I got it apart and started to un-wind it the break was only a few wraps in so I re-soldered it and it sounds good so I never pursued winding my own. How or why it broke I'll never know.

It just occurred to me that they were laying around. I haven't come up with a price. They do not have Gibson stamped on the covers. I thought that was a later thing.
The bass now looks like this. It sounds great and plays like a dream.
I've been working on this the last couple days. As far as I can see, Gibson doesn't sell them, not sure why. They are not listed on the website. Only way to get them seems to be buying them from someone who had them replaced. Pretty frustrating.
Sweet bass! Thanks for the info. My '71 has "Gibson" stamped in the PU's so I wasn't sure. PM me a price and photos and I'll see if it fits in my tight budget. I'm retired and this economy isn't very friendly to anyone...especially on a fixed income!

Also, "meh" might be what I'm looking for. I mean, have you heard the Epiphone mudbucker? I refuse to believe it's any worse than that lol. And it has to be more articulate than the Artec mudbucker. I'm just kinda sick of it to be honest. It's cool for what it does. But it's just too…much. I just want something that looks stock but has some punch and clarity to it. Its a shame there aren't more options.

Just wondering…was that a direct drop in for your Epi? Or did you have to do any surgery to get it to fit? Did the Epi cover fit? Or were the two covers different?

I believe that some minimal routing was required. I used the cover that came with the Gibson PU, or at least I believe so...
