Been there done that mate. Look back now and get the shivers thinking bout the amount of money I've blown on guitars, basses ( and cars). By blown, I mean selling at a loss, just to get some do re mi in a hurry. Hopefully you at least got some extra coin selling the pbass. I never had a prob selling anything Fender, because to this day I have never owned any Fender stuff he he. I have nothing against the big F. Just have been other paths to go down chasing what feels right for me. I had a jazz bass copy not too long back, but only had it for a few weeks. Guess what. I sold it for a loss he he. Bought something else with the money. Guess what. Another bass. And on it goes. The Gas merry go round. Agggggghhh!!!!!
Just thinking out loud. I have a friends new SG bass over here and the neck pickup is clocking in around 9.5k while the bridge is 6.5k. Sounds great though. Not all that muddy imo. I also have a fire bird pickup and this will definitely drop right in the bridge. Its a dual coil rail type which is standard fire bird and that is clocking in around 8k. Might be a great matchup. Hmmm

Prodigus Filius I might've missed this in your EB Basses from other manufacturers but here's an 80's Teisco that is pretty nice...
Got my '64 EB2 back from the shop with a new Hipshot bridge, Bartolini 8su pickups, and LaBella med flats. Plays great, although it needs a re-fret, and the Barts sound amazing with a little boost and eq. He also said it would be an extensive job to rewire and blend the Humbucker and Barts together in the middle toggle position, partly due to the 'bass boost' button. He basically didn't want to mess with 60-year old wiring, and I'm fine with that.
The only thing was I noticed the top Bart is upside down. When I asked my tech about it, he said the only way they could be installed was like that due to the short wiring together. They sound ok to me, nothing unbalanced, so it's possible just the casing got turned around at the factory somewhere.

That looks like a lovely piece. The best necks in business when it comes to stability, bar none as well.
No idea what these go for nowadays, but the price seems to be on the expensive side IMO.

Looking at the EB-2, its strikes me as funny that Gibson's whole bass design strategy has just pretty much been "yep, let's take that guitar and make a bass out of it".

You should. I bought my first Gibson bass 40 years ago and owned quite a few in the meantime yet found stuff in the "Gibson Bass Book" that I had absolutely zero idea ever existed. I don't necessarily like all of their concepts but it's an excellent read nevertheless.
Gibson has tried new ideas and concepts in about 90 different bass guitars. Most of them with little success but, they showed an effort that 7ender fans will not acknowledge or even give Gibson the time of day for.
Far and away more than what 7ender has ever done IMHO, other than offer a hundred different colors for the P and J bass. I am not a 7ender hater as I own a FSO and I like it a lot.
Gibson ONLY gets judged on the 60"s EBO with the Mudbucker pup and "they" look no further.
With that said, the EBO and EB3 rocked the 60's, along with the Thunderbird!

Gibson has made a ton of different models, but a lot of them haven't really stuck around long. They've also had some confusing naming strategies, like with the various modern (2010s) era EB basses that people occasionally (and quite understandably) stop by here with only to find out soon enough that the "EB"s we're going on about are the EBs from the 60s and 70s, especially of course the SG-shaped ones.
But anyway, my personal faves (for the original classics, just from looking and listening rather than having them played for myself) are the better known ones and their modern descendants — EB-0 (original style, and it's current tribute, the LP Jr. Tribute DC), of course the EB-0/3/SG Basses, the EB-2, the Thunderbird (especially reverse, but also non-reverse), and the Les Paul Signature bass (similar looking to the Epi Jack Casady). All guitar based (though I'm not sure on the LP Signature having a corresponding guitar stablemate?), for better (they all look great, imo) or for worse (some ergonomics issues involved in some cases). Oh yeah, the semi-modern carved-top Les Paul Standard bass looked cool for rocking out, though I ended up thinking it was perhaps too guitar-looking for my tastes. Finally, I used to think the Explorer bass was way cool back in the 80s, especially the classic Korina late 50s/early 60s era ones, but after owning and carrying around an Explorer-style guitar for a while, the jones for one faded (the case is huge…). Still think it looks great though
Not meaning to ruffle anyone's feathers — i know and appreciate that there are lots of other models, some of which others of us here know and love well
