SG & EB Bass Club

Based on the mounting screw pattern, it's a double-rail Telecaster guitar pickup.

I've had that same thought off and on, mostly because I have one in a parts box gathering dust.

A nice bright sounding pickup that close to the neck should sound great!

I guess could try and get a longer bolt. But I have a new strap button ready to install. It's a nice Dunlop one. I'll just put it on the horn and see how it works.

When I did that, neck dive was decreased significantly.

Good catch on the screw pattern. It's gotta be a Tele pickup.

I found this on a well known Radiohead gear site. It also says Hot Rails. The only question I have is why it doesn't look like one. The casing is a different shape and there is no logo. So maybe the pickup was modified and put into a different cover/enclosure.

My Son just saw Smile last week. Anyway I looked up his instruments and his Bass collection is Jaw dropping! He is multi talented! I couldn't find anything on his EB0 but that looks like a rail pickup to me also.

EB-0 project update!

It's a little rough around the edges here and there, but my latest EB-0 update came out pretty good I think. Especially considering I'm just an amateur and I was doing a lot of this stuff for the first time lol. The pickguard was the tricky part, of course. I plan on taking it back off at some point and trying to fix the rough spots. But it's ok for now.

This mod update required a lot of routing. Which basically makes this mod irreversible. At least in the sense that I can't easily go back to a mudbucker now. Or even a Thunderbird pickup. On the plus side, I now have an endless choice of standard humbucker sized pickups to choose from, should I ever decide to change things up. So that's cool.

These pickups are a pair of Tony Iommi signatures. They are rail humbuckers with alnico 5 blades. Pretty hot, but not too hot. Just right in fact. They sound surprising good in this bass.
The controls are blend, volume, treble, and bass. I was going to go with a 3 way toggle but I didn't like the look of it. Plus I found a super neat dial plate for the blend knob which I think looks cool. :D

What do you guys think? :)

Unique and classy looking. At least at the resolution I'm seeing, it looks like it could be from a factory (i.e., doesn't look like a homebrew mod)

Great. Big sound. Punchy and beefy. A little closer to a Tbird type sound than a traditional EB, which is kinda what I was after.

Originally I experimented with split coil/parallel switching. But I was unhappy with the results. So I scrapped all that. The pickups sound best as just straight humbuckers. And I can actually get a fairly good "single coil" type sound just by dialing in the bass cut knob.

I forgot to mention this, but the mini toggle switch is for the blend pot ground. In grounded mode, the tone is smoother. Ungrounded, it has more bite. It also affects the sweep of the blend. I really like that feature a lot.

Cool looking Retro-Modern. I like it! Pickguard is nice! I like the shape.
