LOL - I thought I was the only one obsessed enough to want a second one! My current one sounds sweet but is a real looker and fairly rare, now I kinda want a beater that I can just wail away on as the mojo grows. Keeping my eyes open for a heavily used but structurally sound all stock SG at a great price, any color and any age will do.

So I stopped by GC today and had it set in my mind that I was gonna buy a set of flats for mine but I just couldn't do it.Might sound dumb but I really like the stock strings alot.

While I was there I played around with a 2015 standard again.The new pickups just aren't the same.Sales guy,who happens to be the same guy every single time I go in there and don't think dude ever leaves that place,said he don't know when they will have any 2015 specials in.Told him to keep me informed if he hears anything.

Those sg specials are cheap now! I got mine as a beater and to learn to mod but I like it too much! Thinking about getting an epiphone long scale dude and upgrading the pups to make it like my special

There is that chance!

The price on these are unbelievable for what you get. The fret work on these are better than most other brands in this price range. Also, I didn't pay what they are listed for, so even better

These are real bargains. Made in USA hasn't been attainable in this price range in years. Big thumbs up for Gibson tossin' the "average Joe" an "affordable bone."

They really are amazing basses for the money.

I was expecting the tone to be muddy or very bottom endy at least, that just simply wasn't the case, it was so raspy and growly, very versatile.

I also was mildly entertained by the amount of growl the new SG bass will generate. Tremendously excited to try it through some overdrive on the new amp head I have in route :bassist:

So my new Rumble 500W head came in...
The only drawback I notice different is it does not have the overall power as my LH1000.

That was expected though due to the difference in power rating
But the Rumble sure sounds better.

There are sounds I never heard come out of that cabinet.
It made me smile. Played both my P and J basses thru it, very pleased.

But when I played my SG through it and leaned on the gain a little, WOW!
That's why that knob is on there!

Its true, overdrive and gain were designed for an SG!

I am at the moment...

However I had a set of LaBella flats that were an absolute dream to use.

The set up used to be, 3 LaBella flats (E, A, D strings) and one round wound for the high G..

Now due to the style of music I am playing with this bass, the D'darrios are much more appreciated

But as always, they sound better when they've been on the bass for a few months lol

In a perfect world I would've kept the LaBellas on permanently haha

I was messin' around recently and found a nice solid all-purpose tone for my SG Special. I cut the bass to 11:00, cut the mids a bit at approx 700-800 Hz, and bump the treble to about 2:00. Pickup volumes up 80% and tone wide open, stock strings.

This is on a Genz Benz Contour 500 combo with gain at 11:00. It sounds full, clear, and very rounded to my ears, and still retains that signature Gibson sound. What do you all play through, and how do you EQ for your SG or EB?

Currently I'm playing through either a Fender Bassman 150 combo with bass at 12:00,low mids at 12,high mids at 12 and treble all the way.Compression is at about 1:00 with contour about 12.

or a Bugera bvp5500 going into a GK 2x10 and a GK 1x15 rbx stack with gain at about 3,bass at 6,mids at 12:00,treble at 7,with tube preamp cut on 8 with bass boost on.

I keep the SG tone full,neck pickup full,bridge about 3/4,stock strings
