SHAFTED(by my school)

I play an 80's bass. My loaded bass gigbag alone weights what your amp does.
I play 1x15 combo. Yeah, I wish it weighted only 30 lbs.

And by now you've suffered enough so that you're ready to start playing blues.
If you happen to be at a crossroads late at night ........

Matt

I had an Afternoon Delight during detention.........

To OP, you think that's bad, pfft.....wiat till you and your whole band show up to a gig an hour from home, get told it was canceled and we'll book you next month- call you on Monday.
No call no nothing.

Now, I understand that in the little bubble of your world it's a big deal for you. And in high school- your world is a bubble. Thats just the way it rolls.
I get that.
Don't worry, it only gets worse out in the real gigging world. So enjoy!:D

(and you thought playing in a band was fun!)
Thanks for understanding. I understand that its gonna be worse when I start doing real gigs. However, this is a high school with a very small amount of musicians. So if they're gonna have Musical Friday, there need to be a lot of changes. For example, if the same people are playing more than one friday, they cannot play the same songs. That way people like me won't feel so let down. Another thing is if you are organizing a monthly event to get students involed or whatever, don't you think that the smart, kind thing to do is to apologize and move the kid on to the line up for the next one? If you want kids to try and be a part of something you should at least encourage them to try it twice. If this wasn't a teacher/administrator orginized event then it would be less of a problem.

I'll save the blues for when I'm sad. I'm angry at my school so I think Rage is the way to go.
:bassist:

the only school "gig" i did the very well qualified sound "engineer" kept telling me to turn down my amp. i said and i quote, "in a three piece band the drummer probably should hear me when the guitarist solos" to which the replied you will be fine.....guitar player solo'ed, the song fell apart and i realized that sound guys are idiots lol

:bawl: and i still cry myself to sleep about that and that was 4 years ago haha. ;) let it go buddy you will be alright

I didn't even get to argue with the sound guy.

And you guys that laugh at my thirty pound amp:
1) I don't even know if it weighs 30 pounds(most likely weighs more)
2) Its more like 30 kilos
3) My bass, in the hard case with my seven cables, power brick, three pedals and my extra socks weighs around 20 pounds.
4) I have to carry it around campus when I can't find an office to keep it in.

Its not as lavish as it sounds...

Anyways, this is the complete opposite of what happened when I was in high school, we all rented a bunch of generators and did a makeshift open jam in the school parking lot on Senior Cut Day (And this was only 4 years ago)..... I went straight into the board with my BDDI that day though since I didn't want to haul my Hartke rig (which weighs about a collective 200 lbs between head and cab).

Don't take it personally. From the sound of it, none of the "f***ing over" was directed at you. Even without outright incompetence, your wants & needs are usually pretty far down on other people's lists of priorities. That's just the way the world works! Welcome to the world!
