I need a 4 space rack that has a total depth with the lids off to be no more than 12 inches. I can't really tell from most of the descriptions. They say they're 10.25" one way and 14.25" another way and I don't know what the heck they mean. I have between 10" and 12" to work with on top of my combo. With the lids off, the total box can't have a longer depth than 12". Anyone know which shallow racks qualify?

Sure enough. The SKB shallow X rack should do the trick for you nicely. Depth is only 10.375 inches:

That's rackable depth -- what'll fit inside. I just measured two of mine. They're ~ 11 9/16" with the front lid off. The 14 1/4" measurement is with the lid on. The back lid doesn't protrude, so it's the same measurements with it on or off.

Man, that just barely works! But it works, so I ordered it. Thanks guys!

Jimmy,

There's an older SKB model EFX rack that's only 9 3/4" deep with the lids off. I have one of those that I'd happily sell off if it'd work better for your purposes. It's in good condition, but it's a kind of an ugly gray w/black speckled finish. I think they may have come in all-black too? Anyhow, PM me if you're interested.

Gator males shallow versions of their racks too. I was torn between the shallow 4 space and the 4 space gig bag rack. I went with the gig bag in the end as I really wanted a very portable set up that would be easy to carry in ine hand and not mark up the inside of my car.
