Shameless self promotion...

So I kinda put together a new project around the end of November with some guys I'd played with before as well as some fellas who'd been in other local groups. I couldn't really say who we may remind you of, but I can say it's pretty loud and aggressive.

The way the pieces came together was quite out of the blue, but we seemed to mix well right off the bat. We've banged out a few tunes and finally had a chance to get two of them recorded last week. The mix-down isn't quite where we want it, so they could use some pretty minor tweaking, but we think it's close enough to start sharing.

Anyways, we just set them up on our myspace page this morning, so if you like heavier music, please take a listen and tell me how you feel about it. I'm cool with honest opinions, as it could only help us improve.

Thanks!

Sounds great. Your singer sounds a lot like Henry Rollins on After The Storm, but can actaully sing, unlike Rollins.

Kind of a Three Days Grace vibe as well on both tracks.

Just good solid rock. Great singing.

Be sure to post when you guys get an EP together.

So we've played a couple shows in the last month and have been getting a great response from the attendees. Our show on the 17th went over really well. We came out super-pumped about our performance that night, it was damn near flawless musically (which is friggin' rare) as well as pretty energetic. Post show tequila shots were in order! :ninja:

Due to the few shows we've played so far, and what I'm assuming is word of mouth....we've been garnering tons of unsolicited offers to play from upper Florida to Virginia. Not gonna do it yet! First off, we're going to need more than 30 minutes of material to play, secondly...we really need to figure out a business plan for this thing if we want to see if this beast will do anything.

There is no way any of us wants to go for a 6 hour drive to play for an unknown cut of the door...so I suppose management or booking agents may become a necessary evil if we get serious about taking this thing on the road here and there.

We're going to take the next 8 weeks off of gigging and really focus on busting out/finishing a few new tunes, then start looking at booking again.

Anyways, please take a listen to the newest one we posted today...Link Removed and tell me how you feel about it. This one started off being a bit more dark and brooding , but it it's been tweaked to be less droning and a bit more uptempo.

It comes across great live, but I have some honest concerns about this mix-down so I'd really like to know how it comes across to an outside ear.

Thanks

It's good. It's also very standard hard radio rock. You could catch a break with the right person but you're competing with hordes of other bands with the same sound. What will set you apart? I'm sure this isn't your first rodeo. You all sound as though you have a wealth of experience and already know how the industry works. If you already know the right people, cool. If not, what makes you memorable?

Hadn't really put too much thought into separating ourselves from anyone else to become 'rock gods'! :)

We all just really love to play, and want to write songs we enjoy on a personal level.

Oddly enough, there's no one in the immediate region who covers the same sonic space as us...and least none that I've seen or heard. Anything 'hard' would fall to the emo side of us or towards the very heavy.

I think the best thing going for us is that we pull it all off in a live setting very well. I've seen signed national bands that can come across less than great live, where I think this project is better live than recorded. Still...you have to have the 'right' people see or hear you, and it's still a matter of luck. Do they need/want anything like this on their plate right now? It's a business decision for them.

That said...we're all regular guys with day jobs or families and approach it as very serious part-timers. We're willing to put in the work, but not foolish enough to make rash decisions in the hopes of 'getting signed'. :p

We do have a some second-hand contacts (for lack of a better term) that might could give us a slight leg up on any local competition, but we'd really like to build a bit of a fanbase before looking to promote this thing as more than a local rock band.

Hehe...

Columbia SC being small college city is way into the hippy-rock-reggae-jam band style...and anything heavy tends to be more underground feel.

One cool thing is that most of the 'harder' bands here tend to get along well. I'm sure that privately everyone thinks that their band is better that the next one...but there's not alot of one-upmanship. WE just do what we do and cheer the next band on.

But it's a big world out there...just because what we do locally may work, doesn't mean that it would one state or city over. :)

Yeah Man, that's where I was comin' from. I hope ya didn't take offense. I wasn't tryin' to get ya down at all. I honestly think you guys are good at what you do and it sounds like everyone is talented. Your timing sounds good 'n' tight and from what I heard it seems like you all level one and other. These are all great things and I wish you success. I just wanted offer a voice of constructive criticism. With all of that said, ya wouldn't think that Louisville, KY would have such a strong scene. Most of the bands get along; there's just a lot of talent. It's competitive in that way. Good luck, Man.

No...not in the least. If I was frightened of some honest criticism, I'd hole up in the closet and definitely not post links here at TalkBass.

:hiding:

I'd rather have some honest opinions than people blowing smoke up my rump telling me how great we are. I hate that...unless it's a lovely female. :smug:

And Tdub....now you guys have a one of a kind sound. I like it.

Thanks for the heads up on S&A and another place to play too. It's good to hear they are someone worth working with in the future. Perhaps a gig-swap would one day be in order....

Alrighty...we've uploaded a mellower tune. "Bad Sign". It's not my personal favorite, but it comes across with a bit more overall punch than I expected, yet I still feel it's a bit weak in spots and could use a little extra 'something'. It's a bit late to add any substantial parts, but we might could beef it up during a future remaster with a bit of studio trickery.

It's definitely a radio song and it's the last one we've tracked. Scott is singing closer to his natural voice in this one, he's still choking off some of his vowels, but it's much cleaner than usual. I can hear subtle hints of my bass tone in this one, but it's still way too scooped after the mastering, thus cutting out all my nice grindy mids. Clean guitars are too wet, so they sound a bit thin. Snare, high-hat, and cymbals are a bit low in the mix. Other than those complaints....I think it turned out alright.

We have one more song that is 100% finished that hasn't been recorded. It's a very angry, raw, heavy thing that'll be tracked with the batch of songs we're working up now. We have two new ones that are pretty much written and just need the little things polished up, one is similar to Bad Sign (a bit stronger IMO) and one is straight forward with a bit of a punk undertone at times. Then there is another that has a skeleton and just needs some arrangement before a melody starts to take shape...I'm not sure what it's going to end up like.

Damn if song-writing can't be a royal pain in the ass though...the process can flat suck, but it's nice when it finally turns into something you can play from front to back.

Anyways....I guess I won't have any new songs to add for a while.
