Shave without nicks?

1. Badger and Blade forum
2. Ignore everyone telling you that you need more than one blade on a razor
3. Purchase an old school double edge safety razor, a sample pack of blades, a brush, and some good cream or soap. I'd say start with Proraso cream and their aftershave balm. It's a subtle scent and works extremely well.

I've been doing traditional wetshaving for at least a decade now. I've converted a bunch of my friends too.
An electric shaver is "easier" and you get a terrible shave for the most part. 3+ blade cartridge razors are a super expensive gimmick. The more blades on a razor just means you have 3+ chances of cutting yourself and giving yourself more razor burn.

Proraso green from Italy is my favorite summer cream. Even using it warm, all the menthol and eucalyptus has a wonderful cooling effect. It's also pretty slick. I also like Musgo Real Classic from Portugal. Lots of lanolin in that one, and a scent that is hard to describe.

Proraso green, blue, and Musgo Lime & Basil are awesome. The Musgo is my favorite for summer. Proraso is up there though.

There is a product called Bump Patrol that is great for occasional red bumps and irritation. I wouldn't recommend it as an everyday product, but it can work wonders for a two or three day stint when irritation gets out of hand.

I've been using King Of Shaves Alphagel for years. I like it a lot, but most stores don't carry it anymore. Easy to find online, though.

As some of the other guys have said, I also recommend shaving in the shower. Get a cheap fog-proof mirror and you're good to go. Just don't store your razor in the shower unless you have a spot to store it where it won't stay wet continually.

The biggest help for me was finding the shave cream that works best for MY skin.
Probably tried 9-10 but when I found one that worked well for me, it was soooooo worth the time invested on experimentation.

I also would suggest a old school double edge, but keep in mind there are MANY different brands of blades. A variety pack can help cut costs here.


EDIT: Badger and Blade!! Go there you won't regret it.

Bay Rum can go either way. It's heavy but works very well in any season.

Yeah I totally hate college meatheads who bathe in axe spray four times a day. They probably get a new bottle every couple days. They peek into a room for a couple seconds and the place smells like a deodorant factory for the rest of the day.

Electricity costs a fortune here, I would never take an extra 10 minutes in the shower to shave. The times I've done it have been great, though, but I get the same result shaving immediately after.

They've popped up around here since the beardy hipster thing took off, and many barbers have added chairs, but there never seems to be anyone actually getting a shave.

India was glorious, I spent a few weeks in Kashmir and a few days in Dehli, barbers everywhere that give a great shave, and for pennies more s facial and or neck and head massage.

If it didn't cost $20 here for a shave I'd get one on the way to work everyday.

I used to believe that shaving cream was only good for seeing where you already shaved, but after a while i realized that it really does help condition and lop hairs off more smoothly. I reckon a decent soap lather could do the same thing, but may cause irritation (bumps) because soap is more drying than conditioning
