FWIW, it's not the norm either. I don't want to be a UPS apologist but that was driver error, not company policy. Neither place is 100% secure from pickup to dropoff. I think you did the right thing having it shipped to your workplace. While the Afterburner was clearly marked 'signature required' multiple times, what UPS did was go down the street and find a random to sign for it. When I followed up they said 'there's a note saying your neighbor signed for it'. That's not acceptable.

According to my CC billing statement, it looks like THIS Dingwall:

...is actually mine now.![]()
Well, the Dingwall site isn't updated regularly...so there's been some float on a whole variety of specs. I believe that in this day and age, you'll pay probably just north of 2 for a AB-1.
Right now, they're spec'ed with an alder body (either 2 or 3 pc.), maple top (although you can opt out on that one). It's a 5 piece maple neck oil/wax finished. The Fretboard is wenge, and currently unmarked.
The electronics side of things looks like this:
2 Dingwall FD-3 Mach II pickups, which are neo-magnet split coils. The Mach II denotes that they're each switchable between series and parallel internally.
There's the standard volume and passive tone roll off.
There's also a 4 way rotary switch, running: Neck-Neck/Bridge(series)/Neck/Bridge(parallel)/Bridge.
I believe that strap locks are also now standard.
The bass is served up with a standard issue SKB Freedom hard case.
You are absolutely right that the AB line is a Boxter and not a Carrera, still it's a Porsche (the Prima Artist line is an F-60 Ferrari but this is another story).
The "limitations" really are lack of Graphite stiffening rods (even though there have been 1 or 2 limited AB II with graphite reinforced necks IIRC), a little different body shapes and necks (less curvaceous thus less human labour and less time consuming to be produced, thus less costly), fewer body and top wood choices (they are still in the Boxter territory, not family car standards). Sheldon does not cut corners when it comes to playability, ergonomics and most important tone
This is the back of my AB I

All I can say is Astro-Pop!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the clarifications.I bet I could find out more exact details about all the models if I join the Dingwall forums.
That's right. I'm suddenly interested in more than just the Afterburner now. I can't help but be attracted to all those neat optional features.
I promised myself not to return to this thread, but here I am. And boy do I regret it.
Thanks a bunch to BurningSkies, for those pics, you sunovagun. You're gonna owe my wallet an apology sometime in the future.
Anways, CONGRATURATION. You (almost) have your bass finally!
Yeah, UPS can be a bunch of d*cks. When I was Cali, they once returned my bass which was sent from New York, saying no one claimed it and was signed to be sent back. I had no idea the ghost of christmas past was still in town.
It was a huge 70 bucks one-way for a $150 bass, and I had to pay triple the amount in shipping (to me, back to seller, then back to me). NICE.
I hate UPS.
Guess for now we'll just have to do with looking at your pics!
Ok! Another shot of the FULL bass came along with tracking information from Sheldon...
