A few other have replied too...indeed it is a proprietary circuit that Sheldon and his shop developed. Because the OBP-1 is all boost, no attenuation, it is not like the usual active bass tone control. Back when I spec'd out my bass, I asked if there was a way I could get a passive tone roll off as well as the usual treble/bass control, since I tend to roll the highs, it was a major concern with the OBP-1 that I would be using. I bit later it came back that they were developing this hybrid treble control, thus not needing two controls.Simple and very intuitive.
Do you think there's any chance that Sheldon would license such a tone control? I'm sure there'd be a market for an active-boost/passive-roll off tone control.
The hybrid treble circuit is something that we're keeping proprietary. At least for the time being.
Glockenklang's line of preamps does that.Do you think there's any chance that Sheldon would license such a tone control? I'm sure there'd be a market for an active-boost/passive-roll off tone control.
Glockenklang's line of preamps does that.
Anymore updates?
For those that may not know BurningSkies had originally specced out the Z2 shown here and changed his mind after two years.
I started out in the Dingwall cult with a bog standard AB1 5er ordered from Bass Central without ever having played a fanned fret bass. When it arrived I was blown away: its more than an instrument, its a piece of industrial art. This is a bass I just want to pick up.
Adjustment to the fanned frets was not an issue for me, but as an old flat-strings P bass player for over 40 years I've had to adjust to the hi-fi sound. I've since added a three-band Glock pre-amp that has cured most of my issues.
Tracking the forums at the DW site I'd worked out that probably the best option for the sound in my head was a Z2 with FD3s/Mach switchable with (I'm about to swear Sheldon - look away now!) chrome flats. When this production slot opened up I jumped.
Gone a bit overboard with the options - birds-eye maple fretboard, Sklar bars, OB3 - but what the heck! Burning already had a matching headstock and matching wood pup covers ordered, so I've stuck with those as well.
Also gone for a traditional three-tone burst along the line of this Z3 - probably the prettiest bass (to my eyes) I've seen. Now with a maple fretboard...

Well here's the latest pic of my new Z2 and I have a decision to make...
The PUPs will have a matching wood covering but Sheldon has asked if I want them with an amber coat to match the burst, or (transparent) black to give a contrast. I'm hopeless at visualisations like this. Suggestions please?

I vote for option C: Have Sheldon make them so that they match the fretboard wood.

Amber or wenge would be cool.
