They are dirty guts. I have a used Gamut D & G as well as a extreme budget D & G that I plan to try in the near future. The synthetics where the cheapest way I could get it here and start a few things I wanted to do. My plan is for a full unwound gut setup, but I’m not sure I can go all the way with Gamut’s.

Since I couldn’t find a 90 in driving distance, an 80 & 88 were my references for Shen builds. That, and the reviews I’d read here. My other bass is nicknamed big red, so I am with you. Are there some photos of your 88 around? They are really sweet too!

I'm currently looking seriously at Gamut Red Diamond DG over innovation SilverSlaps EA for my startup into guts when I'm ready for that move. Currently using SBW Deluxe Dirty Guts (medium) DG over SilverSlaps EA and liking them a lot for now; it's a good mixed set on my bass, the SilverSlaps EA are extremely strong and clear, cutting through nicely. But I can't ignore the call of real guts.

There is certainly a difference between the synthetics and guts. I have wrapped guts on my hybrid and the tone is really nice. So much better than synthetic guts with which I've experimented. So, just to avoid the follow up post, I have not tried them all and I think we all know that every bass likes things that it likes. So, this is just my opinion and specific to my universe.

I am kind of digging the feel of the synthetic guts, but will be adding one/both of the used Gamuts in the near future. Although, the one that I most anxious to replace is the E. I know the E doesn't have the same focus as the Eudoxa wrapped E, but really that is sort of the goal... more percussive and less tonal.

I would say heed the call!! :D

Sorry, I am crazy busy at work right now and don't get much computer time. Here is a quick pick I took a minute ago of my SB88 among it's friends. Got to go and get some sleep now. Keep the rubber bit down eh

Just like my gut experiences, these synthetic guts tend to get better and more focused as they stretch. I’m fairly amazed at how good they sound. I still think unwound guts will be an improvement, but with a little more improvement in these, my urgency may wane just a bit. I’m really digging the old school sound of these strings. The wound guts were an improvement in tone over metal strings, to my taste, but these are off into a whole new land. The bass tone is big, full and punchy. Much more so than I ever expected from a laminate with synthetic gut strings.

Got my SB200 Rogeri in May. Picked it out of 4 different SB200s and SB300s. I liked the sound of mine the best.
I picked it in up after an interesting tour in Sam's factory in China. Sam is a great person with an interesting live.
The bass came with a violin bow from Sam my wife felt in love with...

Bass and violin bow made their world premiere with h minor mass of good ol' Bach in Shanghai. Almost impossible to top. In December we are going to perform the Messiah. If somebody is around and wants to join just let me know.

**impending membership alert**

so I’ve made a deal to trade my badly-in-need-of-repair carved Roth for a new SB88. The Roth will get repaired and find it’s way into the hands of someone who needs an entry- level carved bass, I’ll get a brand new gigging bass that won’t give me trouble in changing Canadian weather. Looking forward to getting the new bass in the next couple of weeks and formalizing my membership!
