Shift Line - Olympic MkIII Tube Bass Preamp

@Ricky Caboverde - Big thanks for those links!! Explained how the EQ works really well and being able to visualise it with the calculator was also really helpful. Tested with my MkIII and it sounds very close to what I’m seeing with the calculations.

I was pretty happy with the sound I was getting with the MkIII but now that I have a much better understanding of how the EQ works I’m already getting a much better sound out of it that is so much closer to what I was chasing!!

Massive thanks, that’s really helped to make my experience with the MkIII even better!!!

I'm VERY glad to hear that it was helpful to some degree  I'm definitely looking forward to practicing later on to test out TSC!

On a related note, I just emailed Shift Line to ask them if we're on the right track to understanding their preamp using TSC. I'll let y'all know what they respond.

Mods...

Is it possible to sticky a post within a thread? I vote #316 should somehow be highlighted for everybody's benefit.:)

Awww shucks

:roflmao: Yesss! When I'm down to my socks, it's time for business!

@davelowell2, I finally got a chance to sit down and test out the TSC. Though I don't have golden ears, I will say that TLC was very helpful to get the near flat frequency response I've been looking for and hadn't been able to until this point (B= 0.5 ; M= 10; T= 0; Gain and Volume to taste). My bass inherently has a thick voice, and with the cab sim it was just a bit too dark. I'd bump mids a bit on my onboard preamp, and now I don't need to. I'm still waiting to hear back from Shift Line.

So now that I’ve been able to dial in a fairly flat sound with the EQ and tweak to taste with a bit of an EQ boost I’m even happier with the MkIII than I was before! Very full and punchy sounds from this lovely little preamp! I’m a very happy man!

This is really strange but I’m like you, even happier than before! This information about the EQ made me approach my sound a bit different and it sounds even better now. And I loved this preamp even before. Marvellous!

Does anyone have a Noble as well that can draw up some comparisons? I have some fairly serious Noble GAS, but I'd want to make sure there's a noticeable difference in the sound for both the size and dent in my bank account it'd make.
To me Noble is tonewise far superior to MkIIIs. Noble preserves and enhances the organic sound of the instrument. Preserves the musical harmonics, bigger sound, more headroom, more “3D”. That said, the SLO3s is more versatile, but tonewise just another preamp, IMHO.

I wish they weren’t $999. I’m sure they are worth it if you are a professional or gigging musician, but for a hobbyist like me its hard to drop that kind of coin. I have a SLOII by the way. My dream rig is a Lightning Boy OP2 into a Noble into a Bag End powered cabinet.

Ive been stalking this thread for a while.

As someone that has been a member of TB for quite some time, I rarely chime in or contribute to the forums but this thing is so good I have been compelled to speak up.

I just purchased my Mark III off of Reverb recently, further inspection leads me to believe it may very well be @adamaarts ?

All that to say my first impressions are on point with what a lot of others have expressed:

This thing is incredible.

Love the build quality.
Love the tone.
Love that I can practice later into the evening with my IEM's.

I used to run a Sans Amp // Aguilar TH but to me this thing has become my "swiss army knife" for what I do.
I have a few bigger arena gigs coming up with an artist in Jan, so I will really get to run this thing through the paces and get a full report on it. I will still have my Sans Amp // TH as backups just in case, ( and I hope this post is not me experiencing the honey moon phase ) but first impressions have me believing that Ill be sticking to the Olympic for a while.

Really happy with my Olympic MKIIIS, i'm looking for power supply for my pedal board : Olympic + Shure HF GLXD16 , MXR Comp M87 .

I use a TrueTone CS6. Its 200mA @12v output actually powers the SLO3 with no problem. The majority here also use a Cioks DC-5. These are the two smallest and "affordable" options that I know have been tested, i.e., others like Mosky Padola might work great but I haven't heard if they're dependable.

Yeah I am up to the DC7 at the moment. I've been using my MkIIIs to power this boss:

It's actually the only preamp I own that has a hot enough signal to really push this cabinet. Sounds great! Which cab sim do you guys like better? So far I'm a "B" guy all the way. Maybe I should have purchased an Ampeg SVT 8x10 instead! :D :D :D

Not certain how long I'll be a MkIIIs power user however, as my Noble arrives tomorrow...
