Ric,
I understand your point of view, but it's up to the experience of the seller to ask the right questions BEFORE shipping.
Personally I take every shipping risk (including the risk of a huge import tax if the package is verified).
It happened once and the seller had no issues with it.

Not speaking for ALL, or EVERY DEAL, but wait til you get that ONE that refuses to pay the import tax/fees...... and then if you want it shipped back, it's at your expense. Sometimes that 'expense' is more than the price you were selling for - sometimes. But when that happens, wouldn't it make you feel like you should just take the item you're selling and throw it into a burning cauldron?

Yeah, I'm jaded.....

I've shipped plenty of gear overseas - Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, and elsewhere. I typically avoid shipping most basses overseas because the cost of shipping compared to the cost of the instrument is ridiculously uneven; take my Spector for example - I'm asking $400 and have to question why I should lose 25% of its cost to shipping. Of course if the buyer is willing to pay for shipping and insurance I'll ship it to the sun if they wanted.

thank you all!...I see this is hot topic...If you buy/sale you send few messages you can arrange everything and you can make deal/agreements...of course buyer has to pay "import tax" and extra cash for higher shipping to outside US ...Yes there can be stress...long shipping time etc. but this is usualy just buyers game...well my experience with TBers who sale me instruments is very good. They stayed in touch with me and where very friendly and they care about shipped item untill I get package successfully... (THANK YOU GUYS!)
Seller can arrange with buyer all details before he ship. If you can ship your item (not pickup only) you have to go to post office anyway...it's just about which address you put on box (just my opinion)...of course it's privat decision if you send overseas or long distace or not...this thing is called freedom ;)

The incentive ?
A faster sale, to mention one incentive.
I've seen a MM Sterling for sale which I would have bought in seconds but unfortunately (for him) the seller did not ship overseas.
The bass is still for sale after 10 weeks and I bought another one three hours after the seller posted his ad.
Everything went smooth as silk.

So where's the incentive for someone like myself to do so ever again? I certainly don't need to, as the world's biggest market is right here in my own back yard.

Tracking # aren't available through USPS on overseas items unless you send it Express, which costs hundreds of dollars. Overseas buyers want you to ship it the "cheapest" way possible but complain when it takes 2 weeks to get there.:rollno:
Tracking service works fine via USPS Express mail international. From US to Croatia takes 7 days, tracking update is correct. And for guitar is $100US via Express mail.

I put this here for one TBer:

to make package smaller (cheaper shipping costs) you can send bass in two parts.
I did that onece and the bass get from Czech republic/EU to Thailand successfully.

I just unscrew neck...I wrap screws well becouse they can make marks on instrument. Than I coat parts by food wrap...than I make "anti-boncers" from bubble-foil and fix them with tape over all borders. Than you need good hard paper box, I made mine smaller and I glue paper strips inside the box just make it it stiffer. Than I put parts to the box you can put some plastic bags or crumpled newspapers to fix it better inside the box..I don't have better pictures so I made just small demonstration with my doughter just with small pcs. of material :-)...hope it hepls W.

If sellers would get over dealing with the likes of xe.com sending them a draft they wouldn't have to worry about paypal shenanagins. You give them an address and name of account to pay and they send you a $US bank draft in sellers name. So easy.

To get an XE account I had to jump thru more hoops than I would have to get a passport even. They take security extremely seriously as they don't want to be agents for terrorists sending each other funds.

You seem to be under the impression that all TB sellers are as desperate to sell, as you are to buy. Obviously, they are not, otherwise they'd be more than willing to ship overseas.

Items for sale on TB often languish for weeks on end, and often don't sell at all. List an item on ebay with no reserve, it will sell every time at true market value, in 7 days. What could be easier?

How about this...

Next time you want someone to ship gear halfway across the planet, why not offer to actually PAY them for their extra effort and potential problems that can occur.

Call it a "headache fee". Add 10% to the total price. You just might get results.

Do I hear crickets?

That's not true.
Priority mail also has a perfectly working tracking system.
Shipping overseas to Europe with priority mail will cost you more or less 100-120$ and will require more or less three weeks to deliver from the moment the bass is shipped.
Unless the package is stopped by customs. This can add two to four weeks to the delivery time.

And all you need to ship internationally is to fill this module.
Easy as that.

If someone puts a sale ad on TB I assume his/her intention is to sell the piece of gear.
I've seen a ton of preconceived thoughts against shipping outside USA (and a lot of ignorance on the subject).
I can agree to a certain extent but personally I don't like paranoid sellers, especially when my feedback says "100% of great international sales".

It also appears that it was sent as a gift and valued at $100. Try sending a $2000 bass, insured for full value and as merchandise, not a gift. I'll bet its more than $100-$120. That brings up another point, stop asking to claim it as a gift or asking to declare a less value so buyers can skate on the duty fees. I hate when that happens.

p.s. I do ship internationally as long as I incur not cost but will always prefer a domestic sell over an international one.

Yes, and when the seller specifically states Conus shipping only, you then have a problem and start whining and complaining.

This is your problem. You think Conus-only sellers don't have a legitimate reason for not shipping overseas. You simply don't respect the intentions of others, hence the "paranoid" slag.

Your "feedback" is irrelevent, and has no impact whatsoever on what transpires during shipping. It's not about YOU, try to think outside the narrow parameters of how YOU WANT others to conform to your desires. Show some respect.
