I also don't think filling out a customs form is "going out of their way".

When you have to take the neck off of the body, buy bubble wrap, bubble wrap the neck and body, find a box to fit the body and neck in ....that is "going out of the way" as opposed to just leaving it assembled and shipping it in a case. I also had to cut a box down twice because of size restrictions, which equals multiple trips to the post office.

Isnt this the reason that there is an International For Sale section in the classifieds?

I have shipped basses, to the states and have never had to take the neck off to ship them, and never ran into a size restriction.

I send bass in two pieces just ones becouse seller ask me for that. It was little more work for me but I like to help and meet wishes (maybe I'm just stupid)...I get few instruments from US in one pcs. just in hard case+box without any demage. I get few basses from Japan just gig bag+box without any demage.
I have to write again I don't want to push anybody...it's every man's business / decision. Maybe it would be interesting to make public inquiry

"A"
1. I ship overseas/international and I never had any problems
2. I had problem with shipping overseas (my package was lost, item was broken, bad experience with buyer)

"B"
1. I ship CONUS only and I never had any problems
2. I had problem within CONUS shipping ( my package was lost, item was broken, bad experience with buyer)

So, its up to the shipper to send an item to arrive in the buyers hands in the same condition, but the honesty of both seller/buyer, and the HOPE that the seller will thoroughly wrap/cushion the item in the process...

Yes, and when the seller specifically states Conus shipping only, you then have a problem and start whining and complaining.

I haven't the slightest problem, and I respect seller's point of view.
If he wants to send, that's ok.
If he doesn't, that's his choice.

You think Conus-only sellers don't have a legitimate reason for not shipping overseas. You simply don't respect the intentions of others, hence the "paranoid" slag.

Everybody has a legitimate reason to do whatever he wants to.
But let me tell you that I always ask a seller why he/she does not ship internationally, just to understand reasons.
I NEVER get an answer. This must mean something...

Your "feedback" is irrelevent, and has no impact whatsoever on what transpires during shipping. It's not about YOU, try to think outside the narrow parameters of how YOU WANT others to conform to your desires. Show some respect.

That's your point of view.
An experienced buyer knows exactly all the pitfalls of international shipping to his own country and can settle 95% of the issues before shipping, including a stolen/damaged instrument or a five weeks stop at customs offices.
A serious buyer won't try to cheat seller. That's what feedback is about.
I always assumed that's the person that makes the difference, but looks like I'm dead wrong here.

P.S. : I have no experience in Con-US shipping but I assume that something can go terribly wrong even shipping locally.

...it's mistrust...it's here and you have to wish you find good person to deal with, to talk with, to ask, guy for help, or just for communitation...world is like that and change comes very slowly. Many shops don't even answer if you are outside from US. Technical support?...many times no answers (becouse I'm located in Europe?)!...there is many many good shops and services, but there is big ratio of these who just (let say in good language) "don't answer" ...so it's here on TB too, some of my PM's?...no answer, some of my posts? I feel like other TBers can't see it ...maybe I'm just too sensitive :bawl:...well this unbelive is here but as I said here is lot of good helpful people on talk bass, many many responsive music instruments shops, etc. Well if you are not American you can sometimes feel some distance...pity

...peace W.

Yes, that was my concern when I did it. I had a heck of a time getting the box to fall within the maximum dimensions, with the neck & body apart, it was just a pain. Maybe I'm lazy, but I like just buying those big guitar boxes from Uline, packing them full of bubble wrap with the bass, and being on my way. I never liked taking the bass apart either, just didn't like doing it....

...well when I ship internationaly or localy I do my best packing job... I like to pack it well...no difference between international or local postage...well I have to fill up some extra international shipping form at post office...that's it...

...but I understand there is that feeling " I send my bass to other side of planet...long way" ...you know how many packages travel everyday between continets?...carriers are not here to brake them or lose them they want to deliver packages without any demage and in time ;)

come on TBers we want to hear good and bad stories
