I've only spent time with a pre-CBS '62 P and a 2009 Road Worn P, so can't comment on the exact models specified... BUT I recently had opportunity to do a shootout between a CS 50s P and a MIA RI 50's P and my Road Worn killed them both. Take that for what it's worth = a big thumb's up for the Road Worn.

There was a great feeling used 50s roadworn at L&M recently and I was sorely tempted. But in the end I bought a 62 ri from a talkbasser and I am glad I did. Anybody recognize the color?

The '62 reissue would be my choice. Love 'em. I've never heard a better sounding P-Bass.

Tough call, I have BOTH!

The RW has the awesome neck, but the relicing is a bit overdone, and the stock pickups aren't the greatest.

The 62 AVRI is one of the most beautiful basses on the planet, with awesome pickups.

Oh, they both had neck dive issues, which were both rectified with Hipshot Ultralites.

If I had to give up one, I'd keep the '62, 'cause I paid more for it!

yup....it's the same color as mine....best bass I've ever owned.

The road worn's look cool but I just like new finishes. Sometimes it can feel like there's a ton of coating between then player & the instrument but, a good bass doesn't have that problem.

Plus, regarding resale for instruments, condition is always a factor. Road Worn or not.


In this case, I just like new (looking) stuff.

This tune is so soothing that it would make a pride of hungry lions roll over and show their soft parts. Derek has a heart full of golden soul and Oteil just blow me away and on a P-bass at that. What a voice Susan T. has!!!! This was the best part of the Crossroads 2010 concert. The new generation of the "Allmans" tradition is without compare.

I traded a 2008 American Standard P straight up for my Road Worn and I definitely traded up.

Yeah those road worns are sick. I'm currently mind battling over a road worn or classic 50s P. I like heavy weight and glossy necks, so I'm probably going with the classic. But the 62 RI is a bit outta my league right now... Maybe a bit down the line.

I was not born during the 1950 era so it would only be a 1962. J bass. White in color.

here's my '62 AV RI vintage white one with an early 70's neck and pickguard on it (i bought it as a body only from a tb member). it's super lightweight and sounds huge.

BTW, NO neck dive at all. as a matter of fact, i've never had a neck dive issue on a p bass, even on my '55 which weighs only 7lbs 3 oz.
