I’ve recently had to switch over to short scale basses due to health issues. Stupid elbows.
I’ve found a couple of basses i like, including the 5 string bass i never knew i needed.
But every now and then the smaller necks just aren’t that comfortable or intuitive for me.
My long scale 4 string basses all had 1.75” nut widths, which feels like home.
The largest i can find for short or medium scale 4 strings is 1.625.
I also haven’t found any semi-custom manufacturers (Sandberg, Warmoth, Maruszczyk) that offer that wide a nut width.
Does anyone have a line on a production-line short or medium scale 4 string with a 1.75” nut?

(I have found 1, but it’s the Traveler Pbass and it’s not my aesthetic, so i’m still looking. I’m interested in trying one out simply to confirm my preferences and if it’s possible to do this combination of specs.)

I love Ibanez short scale TMB30 necks. They are 41mm or 1.61" at the nut. The difference between my Fender Player Mustang short scale at 1.5" at the nut to the TMB30 neck seems like a mile. It could be the TMB30 is fatter at the nut and not just the width. Very comfortable neck to me, anyway.

Ibanez Talman TMB35 is a short scale 5er. (if you're looking at 5's also) The width at nut is 45mm (1.77"). The 4 is 41mm (1.61") The TBM35 sells for $330 (just went up from $299) And the 4 is $250 There is a club here on TB. Those that own them seem to love them.

I have a mid 60's Harmony H22 bass. The string spacingn at the nut is 1 1/2", but the width of the nut is 1 3/4"

The pic is not my bass.

when I think shortscale/wide neck, I think: Reverend Dub King. (don't know the exact knut measurement, but it's like a standard P)
I got a used one, mint cond. at GC and keep it for the design, color (emerald green) and unique woody sound (unless you roll back the treble, then it becomes what its name suggests, a dub king.) I use eb cobalt flats on it, perfect compromise.

I have the Linhbacker, and it’s awesome.
Still has a 1.625” nut though.

I love the enthusiasm, but i’m looking for something closer to a mass produced level.
I’ve spec’d out a Maruszczyk that would be killer and i’d email them in a heartbeat about the wider nut, but i don’t want to sink the money into a custom bass until i know that my theoretical preferences will translate to a practical application.

The Carbonetti shortie I played was a 1 3/4 but and I loved it so much I ordered one on the spot.

Precisely, that's what I was going to suggest as well.

Bilt will do a 1.75 nut on a short or medium scale.
