Short scale bass

I'm needing help on which brand makes a good short scale bass under a thousand dollars! Prefer a light weight bass. P/J if possible. Already have a pbass and a single humbucker bass.
Thanks for any information you can give.

The Sire U5 would be a good choice if you could get your hands on one. I pre-ordered one more than a year ago and I just recently gave up waiting and cancelled the order . At a under $1000.00 , look at G&L or Squier Mustang .

Over $1,000, several choices.
Under $1,000, you start with the best and work your way down.
G&L Fallout Tribute.

As for PJ, you might want to reconsider.

I play a Mitchell (GC store brand - made by Schecter) short scale P/J as my travel bass. Less than $200.00. If you want, you can upgrade the pickups, like I did. Box store price with Schecter quality control. About seven pounds weight.

Whatever bass you get, use GHS Balanced Pure Nickels strings. God's gift to short scale bass players: big, round, tone; great consistent tone string-to-string and up the neck; they don't twang or thump, the nickel is more dense then NPS for the same diameter so they have more mass and more tension so they have good feel and are stable in tone and intonation; they are relatively inexpensive and last a long, long time. The current set on my travel bass has been to Mexico two years in a row.

I'm still shopping. But have some really good recommendations. Checked out the les Paul junior. I already have a music man with one pickup. So not thrilled about the Gibson
I second the LP Jr, but with a twist! Buy a Serek B90 pickup and swap the pickups and you have a Serek on a budget!!! I would suggest a Serek outright, VERY high end shortscale custom jobs, but easily $2k+

Don't just take my word for it though! Take @LowEndLobster's word!
