Pickup wise I hated the aluma's. warbly tremolo if you got the pickup close enough to the strings to sound good.

If you simply must use wood for the dots, I wood suggest using the wing species for all except the double at 12. The twelfth should be inlaid with the neck wood.

Have a set of Alumitone P&Js in one of my Jag SS basses. Haven't noticed any warbly tremolo from them. But I suppose if you don't like crystal clear thump you won't like them. Like them enough that I'm looking at a set of Bass Bars in another project and maybe another set of P&Js in a Squier Tele bass that is going to become a Thinline bass come spring or summer.

I really wish the bridge would mount in the center of the walnut. I am pretty OCD when it comes to center lines and symmetry. The work and, fit of everything is impeccable, the bridge placement is the only negative for me.

Something you might want to consider...walnut is not used for fretboards because it is not known to be able to hold frets well. In the properties that are important in this consideration--stiffness, density, and hardness--walnut falls a good step short of the lowest-propertied wood which is traditionally used, which is hard maple. The other woods generally used, the rosewoods and ebony, have higher properties, as do the non-traditional woods that are used successfully, such as pau ferro, bubinga, padauk, wenge, katalox, and bloodwood.

I have done it. I used gorilla glue to help hold the frets in place, so far so good, but I'm not planning on doing that again.

Got me some Brass stock, off to HF for some files I hope.... It's time to make a nut.
I am going to go a little wider spacing on the neck and the nut. 1/2" spacing on the strings is where I am heading, that is just a titch beyond norm.

Radiused out the fret boards and made the nut, I will thin up the neck a little as well as the nut over the next few days.

Once close I take some old Bass strings and run the nut over them a bunch.
Well 10 minuets on the buffer.... one can read the text in her.

I will echo other posters in saying I'd go 'no dots' if I were you, that fretboard is too gorgeous to interrupt. Maple side dots would be cool!
