Short scale Stingray!

This is why I bought when I did - for fear of them discontinuing starry night (which my son loved).

But Blue Magic is nice too, although I’m not sure what the significance of it being in their “vault” means. They all appear to be the same prices.

the vault are exclusive colors there are only 5 made of each of the vault offerings and once they’re gone they’re gone. They’re $100 more than the starry nights was. Except I got 20 percent off my starry night so it’s really like $500 more than I paid for the exclusivity.

Isn't this it?

Neon Pink - Ernie Ball Music Man Short Scale StingRay Bass - Neon Pink
Blue Magic - Ernie Ball Music Man Short Scale StingRay Bass - Blue Magic
Micro Prism - Ernie Ball Music Man Short Scale StingRay Bass - Micro Prism
Scarlet Red - Ernie Ball Music Man Short Scale StingRay Bass - Scarlet Red

$2,299US

I suspect, figured necks will be part of the BFR program at a higher price.
EBMM is marketing this smartly but not from our wallet's point of view.

Nope these are exclusive Vault offerings only 5 made of each at $100 jump in price. They’ll be announcing the colors and short scale options for 2021 any week now.

Oooooo
I didn't know there was wiggle room in the prices. How'd you work the deal?

Well guitar center was doing a 15 percent off your first purchase if you opened a line of credit with them so I asked my sweetwater rep if he could beat it I’d buy and he was able to so I bought it lol. I think he was able to beat it due to sweetwater kinda owing me after a pretty rough experience I had ordering a PRS that actually still isn’t correct as it’s actually off at the factory getting refinished but that’s a whole story for a guitar thread lol.

I received mine at a 10% discount from a smallish shop by just asking them “the best that they could do and still make decent money” as I’m trying to support the little guy. I’m confident that I could have gotten more off, but I thought it was fair. Nothing against folks who use MF, SW, etc though. I’ve used them plenty too.

oh, and I’m pretty sure there was no tax

Yea I tend to try and use smaller guys if I have the cash to buy what I want out right. Many of them on reverb have sent me offers that beat anything I’ve been offered by the big box stores. Sometimes sweetwater’s no interest financing is too hard to pass up when the gas hits hard lol.

Anybody else notice the red shorty in the vault has an Ebony board???

Ugh in a perfect world I’d take the neck from the pink bass and put it on my starry night and then put the Ebony board on the pink bass and then I’d resell the red shorty with my starry nights rosewood board attached lol.

I take back what I said about the neck on this SBMM version. It's growing on me. At first I was poo-pooing the finish but I'm starting to feel it differently and noticing some things I missed before in my haste. They appeared to use a pretty dense piece of maple, with a thick fretboard piece. The fret edges are tight, probably machine rounded, but smooth even if unpolished a bit.

For a work-horse it's hands down one of the most feature rich and quality import shorties I could find on the market. I debated on the Indo. Fallout bass but this Stingray wins in a few categories, namely, mahogany body and wheel truss for 50 dollars less than the Fallout.

I'm usually a USA-made G&L guy and I honestly can't believe the quality of this Indonesian model. However, I have noticed anecdotally Indonesian models in general are very high quality anymore.

This has me eye-balling some of the other Indo. SBMMs, standard scale that is.

Got my Sterling Short Scale today. Switched the tuners to Hipshots, strings to DR Pure Blues and instrument plays great with perfect balance!

Well I checked after work and there was only 1 pink one left so I had to bite the bullet and buy it because I know I would have died of jealousy seeing pictures of any of the 5 in the wild lol. It’s like they knew they didn’t announce new production short scale colors I’d have no choice but get the pink and they were right lol. Well now time to start the black hardware process again lol.

That reminds me of an interesting fact Ernie Ball customer service shared with me. They weighed 108 of the EBMM short scales and they had an average weight of 7.2 lbs and the heaviest being 7.8 so they’re pretty consistent in weight it would seem!

Congrats!! Looking forward to pictures!

Hi! I'm a huge fan of experimenting with aftermarket pickups (as a complete noob), and are eyeing up this Delano for my Sterling Short Scale. This is a pickup that supports series/single coil/parallel as the original one, but I am unsure what I am looking at here when I look at this diagram from Delano. Could someone, in layman's terms explain for me please? Thank you!

I am a fan of EBMM basses, now that I have actually played a few and bought one a couple of months ago. I am very strict when I use the word quality and this product deserves that descriptor.

RANT:

However, it is very disappointing that I cannot purchase certain instruments that are in the vault (nor certain accessories/hardware such as, tuners) because I am Canadian.

WTH? Should I buy strictly Canadian then? Some of the worlds best instrument makers are in Canada and I could easily get by on Dingwalls and F-Basses... Then there is Hammersmith, Larrive, Laporte, ...more
Ernie Ball doesn't like my money, haha?

They're showing you how to wire a series/split/parallel switch, for two different kinds of switch. That's what it would look like underneath the pickguard/control-plate, if you had it turned over.

The left one is a standard small switch, the right one a blade-style switch like a pickup selector on a Telecaster.

The pickup in the shortie Stingray is already some special designed neodymium pickup. I'm not sure why they did it this way but it's higher output, higher dynamic range due to lower impedance (potentially I didn't check the resistance), and it pulls on the floppier short-scale strings a bit more. Im curious if that last part was intentional on their part to bleed some energy off the strings.
