Shouldn't that be JR344?I then ended up trying TI JF344 rounds on my 34" jazz bass
I really really wish they’d make some lefties. It says “limited quantities” on their home page, so I’m not sure that it is clear.
One thing I’d guess is that the short scales stingrays must be doing fairly well and gaining market share.
I’d love a good short scale. Thanks for your input. I guess I won't know if I like low tension strings until I try them....it will be a new adventure for me. Related to your comment; will the swap out to low tension light gauge strings require an adjustment to my current set up?
I would be interested to know what strings you all are using on your EBMM Short Scale. I am currently using Chrome flatwounds but them a bit too boomy for my taste. Here is the best review/write-up I found regarding the Tomastik TI Round (on Sweetwater's site).
"I bought the short scale StringRay 8 months ago and I battled with finding the right strings for this bass for months. It shipped with the Reg EB Slinkys which actually are fine on the StringRay Special but on this bass they were clanky and boomy. My first inclination was to try TI flats because they accentuate the mids but still have clarity and punch. They were good honestly but this is a bass that just seemed to want rounds, so I tried GHS pressure wounds, Cobalt Slinkys, and all were misses. I then ended up trying TI JF344 rounds on my 34" jazz bass and just thought they were spectacular everything I was looking for in tone and feel in spite of the light gauge. So I took a chance and ordered the short scale version. Wow. This was the one. The low end was no longer boomy, the strings are articulate without being clangy. There is no break in period waiting to see if these are the right string, they sound great out of the package. The bass is now a joy to play and will have these strings permanently.
Thomastik-infleds have become my favorite string, they aren't always the ticket on every bass but they are right so often that I now just default to these and then go from there. For example I have one short scale P bass where the TI flats just weren't the right choice, it now has La Bella FM flats on it. My point is at this price point it feels like a risk to a lot of people so they don't give these a shot. I realize now it's a lot less expensive than going through 3 sets of strings trying to find the right set."
Your thoughts??
This bass is another reason that TI should make JF304s.
I agree. I put TI JR324's on my SBMM and wasn't worried about snipping off a good bit of string before winding them on my tuners. I'd be a bit more worried about the flats because of the way they're constructed. The 32's must be perfect for 30" basses like the Mustang that have string thru bodies.
It should be but Sweetwater doesn't let you edit your reviews if you make a mistake. I do have two P basses one with the TI flats and one with the TI rounds, I should have just said that instead of using their lettering/numbering system.Shouldn't that be JR344?

i use medium gauge cobalt flat (the red packaging one) on my ss stingray ..
and that new pink one is killer .....
there are a lot of good starry night photos in this thread Show off your Musicman Starry NightsOk...A comment, and then two questions...
First the Comment...I think AJ's Starry Night is about the prettiest bass I've ever seen! (and I've been playing bass since 1965)
Now the two questions...
Can someone give a better description of the color (if there is any) in the Starry Night finish? Some pics really look quite blue, and other just look grey. So does it really have some blue in it?
Second...Would it be crazy to put a clear PG on it? I mean, I'd like to show as much of that sparkle as possible.

Real quick so I don’t have to go scouring through all these posts. What is the weight of these MM short scales?
Thanks buddy. I’m really thinking about getting one. The weight factor is a load off my shoulder! One data point for an EBMM: 7.53lbs strung up, no strap.
Any time. That was a significant factor for us as the primary player is 11 years old. He does most of his playing seated given how small he is. For comparison, his mustang is about a half pound heavier although I’m sure that there is a good deal of variation in both models. Thanks buddy. I’m really thinking about getting one.
