Short scale Stingray!

Good catch Lo, why no phantom coil!? Like in the US Sterling... Would it have impacted the tone at all? The hum certainly does.

That's a great question! I don't have the answer but IMO the single coil mode in the Sterling (USA) has the same type of impact on the tone as the Short Scales, just without the hum (and tonal differences from the magnets). I definitely understand why it's not in the SBMM, but if I remember back - wasn't EBMM throwing phantom coils in weird areas in everything for their past weird instruments?

Hi all, new EBMM stingray short scale owner here. While it is the same scale length as the mustangs, it plays a bit smaller due to the fretboard placement and body shape, which is a good thing for my 11 year old who is on the smaller side. This is his first real practice session with his sisters using it since he got it 2 weeks ago:

He gives it a thumbs up.

I would be interested to know what strings you all are using on your EBMM Short Scale. I am currently using Chrome flatwounds but them a bit too boomy for my taste. Here is the best review/write-up I found regarding the Tomastik TI Round (on Sweetwater's site).

"I bought the short scale StringRay 8 months ago and I battled with finding the right strings for this bass for months. It shipped with the Reg EB Slinkys which actually are fine on the StringRay Special but on this bass they were clanky and boomy. My first inclination was to try TI flats because they accentuate the mids but still have clarity and punch. They were good honestly but this is a bass that just seemed to want rounds, so I tried GHS pressure wounds, Cobalt Slinkys, and all were misses. I then ended up trying TI JF344 rounds on my 34" jazz bass and just thought they were spectacular everything I was looking for in tone and feel in spite of the light gauge. So I took a chance and ordered the short scale version. Wow. This was the one. The low end was no longer boomy, the strings are articulate without being clangy. There is no break in period waiting to see if these are the right string, they sound great out of the package. The bass is now a joy to play and will have these strings permanently.

Thomastik-infleds have become my favorite string, they aren't always the ticket on every bass but they are right so often that I now just default to these and then go from there. For example I have one short scale P bass where the TI flats just weren't the right choice, it now has La Bella FM flats on it. My point is at this price point it feels like a risk to a lot of people so they don't give these a shot. I realize now it's a lot less expensive than going through 3 sets of strings trying to find the right set."

Your thoughts??

I have the SBMM version and installed TI JR-324’s right after I got my bass several months ago. First, if you’re not a fan of low tension, light gauge strings, they won’t be for you. I have been using TI flats on my L1K so the rounds felt and sounded great for me.

Thanks for your input. I guess I won't know if I like low tension strings until I try them....it will be a new adventure for me. Related to your comment; will the swap out to low tension light gauge strings require an adjustment to my current set up?
