The shortest I have ever had a bass was about one weekend. I bought it on Friday, and it was sold by Monday. Just didn't bond with it I guess. In the end, I made some money off of it.

Shortest turnaround on a new bass

Shortest period of ownership of any bass of mine is about two months, and that would be a sunburst/maple '76 Precision Bass with Duncans... and a twisted neck. A friend of mine wanted it, knew about the twist, and still had to have it.
Shortest ownership of a brand new bass would be around a year, an Ibanez SR890 to be exact. Any other brand new bass I've ever bought, I still own.

are we talking returns? because in that case, I'm probably around the 1 day mark. bought a p bass and changed my mind about the neck and went with a jazz. as far as selling goes probably a month.
I went on a buying binge from GC's used gear pages awhile ago - out of 13 basses I ordered, I kept 7 and returned 6... Some of the "rejects" were with me less than a day - sure, a bit of a hassle, but I ended up with some really good deals on some nice basses...

Still have my 2002 Precision. When I got the '10 Precision V, the '02 sat in the case for months. Pulled it out one day and the 5'er sat.
Now I have my buddy's '74 parts Precision.
I rotate 'em in & out. No boredom here.

In 2007 I bought a 79 Precision and sold it a few months later. I love the look of the 70's basses, but I ended up not digging the 7.25" radius and the pickup on it, so I sold it and made $300 on it 
I'm working on it still (about 4 weeks now): bought a brand new cheap acoustic off eBay. I thought it was a killer deal, at about 100 bucks including a hard case. Of course...you get what you pay for.
I haven't been able, no matter how much I play it, to get used to the high-pitched clank and fret buzz I get in some frets with the bronze strings, the humongous size, and the inability to easily adjust the action. I might try to level the frets, change strings, increase the action a bit...but it doesn't seem worth it, considering it's probably cheaply built anyhow. It's for sale, and I HOPE I can get rid of it. Next time I will TRY before I buy another acoustic.

It's silverburst and has a Hipshot detuner on the E string and a bone nut that was installed whilst it was getting professionally set up. I tried its big brother at Guitar Center, even though I can NOT afford a $1800 instrument, and came to the realization that while I love the way they sound and adore several EBMM players, they are not for me.
For some reason I initially shied away from Fenders, possibly because the only Fender I played on before buying my new Jazz was a Precision. I'm not a precision-hater because that's just silly, but their necks just don't feel natural to me. I discovered at Guitar Center that the Jazz Bass fits me like a glove

Congrats Man! I think You're gonna love that modern player jazz... The quickest bass turn around I've ever had was a 78 Ric 4001 Jet Glo. Awesome example of a classic Ric, but I just couldn't bond with it. Needless to say, I like Rics as long as someone else is playing them.
Yeah, I remember you telling me about that Ric after your show Saturday. I've never really sat down with a Ric, but I'm not a fan of their tone so I'm not sure if I ever will.

Now days that's kind of like one of My "fishing stories", like the most "GAS'iest bass, that I never loved". If Your taste in basses is similar to mine, You wont be missing anything by not trying one.
Squier VM Jazz. Had it for about 5 months. I liked it a lot, but it was the weakest link in the stable (96 MIJ rosewood JazzBass, OLP MM2 maple). So it went back to the market, making me a USD200 profit in the process... thank $deity for hand-imports

I don't want to start a hatefest here, but I really don't blame you for returning an Epiphone that fast. I've owned two Epiphone guitars and have played on an Epi bass. All of them have been pretty awful IMO. I don't even really like the Gibson basses either. I've heard bands live using T-birds and it doesn't even sound right to my ears. To each their own though.
Probably about 30 days. I like to buy used, and often sight unseen. Sometimes it's just not what I was looking for, but I will usually give it a month or so.
I guess that new battery I put in the bass wouldn't have worked now would it...
