I can understand why Fender has somewhat limited the color pallet on basses at this time. The economy still sucks, so they're sticking to colors that are proven sellers. When economic conditions improve perhaps they will offer a little more variety.

Personally, I'd like to see some other colors added to the current choices. Other manufacturers have offered a traditional range of colors but add a new, unique color for certain production years. Rickenbacker comes to mind with that. Perhaps Fender could do that? There are definitely a good number of colors that Fender has offered in the past that would be excellent choices for this annual rotation. And this kind of promotion could help them drive sales. But hey, what the hell do I know about MI marketing and sales? I just play the damned things.

I understand the economic reasons behind the limited choices,
but would still like to see more, especially in the American Standard line. Where are classics like Sea Foam Green and Lake Placid Blue? We shouldn't have to wait for Factory Special Runs for those. Fender has broadened the choices in the MIM Standards, which is a plus.

Taking this further, I'd like to see more options generally, and with on-line ordering and easily programmable CNC machines it shouldn't be too difficult. For example, each American Standard instrument could have a base price, which would include the standard neck, color options, and pickups. But then, for modest upcharges, you could get things like: (1) neck options, such as a J neck on a Precision or vice versa; (2) a bridge J pickup added to a Precision; (3) noiseless N3 pickups on a Jazz; (4) different colors; and (5) matching painted headstock.

G&L operates like this, and it's extremely cool. They don't offer pickup options on basses, but do on guitars, with no less than six configurations on Strat types.

I think their choice of colors is great. If they had normal colors like pink and lime green, then it wouldn't be a Fender color. See where I'm coming from? If you want a custom color, paint it yourself. It's like cars- If Subarus had 5,000 different color options, then you really wouldn't have a Subaru color. I like my Subarus in the Blue Subaru color. Subaru has their "Trademark" Blue. Same with White and their Forest Green. If they came out with purple or something, then it would just be... well... just purple.

I think they should offer more colors at least on the standar series, it's boring to see just sunburst, black and white basses.

I would definetly pay a little extra money for a different color, because I doubt that Fender would add extra colors "for free".

I'd love a Fender to have an option for a nice creamy Cream finish. Not off-white...not a dull or pale Cream color, but a Cream that's leans to the yellowish side of cream.

I'd snap up two American Standard P-basses, right off the bat in that finish.

Yes, I think it would be cool if they started offering mixed colors or something for example of more sunburst colors like other bass manufacturers do besides just the brownish-orange. The Ying-Yang black and white, brownish-orange sunburst, and a few others are getting boring and played out. I guess I am just one of those people who would buy a Fender with ugly a** color combination just because it is original, uncommon, or not something I see often. Also if it has character or mojo.

I forgot to mention, I'd love to see them bring back the transparent/natural finish for Swamp Ash bodies, for the P-basses.

I can't believe they don't offer a natural Swamp Ash body or a honey Swamp Ash body. I mean, seriously.....what are they thinking?

American Deluxes come in natural over ash.
