Should Fender.........

Honestly, of anything new Fender has come out with in recent years, I thought the Jag would actually beat the curse and survive. But I guess it didn't sell enough to stay afloat.

I thought the Jag would survive too. I see indie/modern rock people playing out with them all the time. Maybe that isn't representative of Fender buyers in general, but it seemed like they were doing pretty good to me. I suppose the configuration was just popular enough that Fender re-purposed the electronics into the AmDlx J and called it done.

As for the Prophecy... that thing looks like a soundgear... which Ibanez does better, obviously. I've never played one, but I'd wager many other potential buyers felt that way.

Can we agree, that young people, on the prowl for the perfect bass du jour, should at least check out, touch, and consider Fender, 2011 or used?

I don't think you have to worry about people looking for what bass to get not trying Fenders. When people ask what basses they should try the vast vast vast majority of people tell them to "just get a P or J(which ever is the flavor of the week) and be done with it". I personally think they should try a lot of different brands including the iconic Fenders. But if that's all they try they may miss out on something they like more. I'm sure we can't all agree about that.

As a proud Prophecy owner, I'd agree it looks a LITTLE like a Soundgear, but I've compared the Prophecy to other Ibanez basses, and the feel and sound was different. And the Prophecy just met my requirements.

The Prophecy is a great bass. I'm not denying it. It would be great if they made it again, but it's fine if they don't. Will Fender make the Prophecy again? I don't think so. Why? They tried it, and it just wasn't as great as their success with the traditional P's and J's. And sometimes you can't fight with tradition.

It's like telling grandma to add something new to her traditional recipes. Some of the family is gonna think it's great, some are gonna hate the new taste and want the old recipe back. And in the big Fender family, the traditional majority wins.

I think most people buy a Fender because they want a Fender. I know I'm not looking for something modern when I look at Fender.

This is how companies go wrong. They stray from what people love about them. New coke almost destroyed Coke...etc etc...

Like my grandfather said, do one thing and do it well. And that's what Fender does, quality classic styling and sound.
