Should I buy a darkglass element?

Help me understand this device. I’m recording at home and want a cab sim. Whenever recording with a band in a studio I’ve always preferred having a direct track AND a mic on a cab. Even if it ends up lower in the mix than the direct track. It adds another dimension to the sound in my opinion. But I do not want the cab sim going into my bass rig as I also want to keep using the xlr out on my mesa amp without having to use an other gear. So does the element work like some of the other darkglass pedals where the cab sim is ONLY on the xlr out and not the 1/4 out?

I’ve checked out a few IR type devices. The darkglass seems to have all the cabs I’d want to mess with in different situations for bass AND guitar. I play guitar also and am curious about running a pedal like the origin effects revival drive into the element for guitar also. But for bass I want to use it as a second channel. Not the only channel.

Yes, the 1/4" output on the Element is an unbuffered, passive pass-through. No effect is applied to it.

It’s also an audio interface and DI with EQ, amp sim, cab sim, and Bluetooth aux audio in. So a bit more than a headphone amp which helps justify the price.

Mine has become a key part of my rig. It’s one of those unremarkable devices that can be incredibly vital if it’s the tool you need. I’d recommend it but if you don’t need the extra functionality then there are simpler cab sims out there for less.

I mainly want it for the cab sim. But I’ll likely use everything but the interface capability as I already have an interface with more channels. And I don’t want to have have to flip back and forth between them on the computer. It would be nice to not have to use two adapters I regularly lose track of that I need to use my heads aux in and headphone out to jam along with my phone. So I’ll be using it a lot for practicing also. It’s a little silly because I love my bass cab, but it’s just it’s just not practical for me to play it at a volume that I would track with.

It's not an headphones amp, it's a Swiss army knife for the bass player. Its super useful for recording, rehearsing, practicing, live playing, etc...

Mine is always with me, I do recommend to get one, you won't regret it

I’ve ended up with a few, always the last in the chain. I find it invaluable for being able to Bluetooth songs in to practice with. It mostly gets used with headphones but, as @Derek Williams says, because it’s pass-through it gets used before my combo amp too. It’s my most useful pedal.

I'd probably go for one if it had bluetooth app control and aux input. Hopefully the next version, as I hear good things about the current CAB M. If I need to start plugging in a bunch of cables I end up using an HX Stomp instead though.

For just headphone use I've been using a Positive Grid Spark Go. It's cheap, has a built in battery, some half decent effects, and bluetooth support. The speaker is mostly useless for bass but it's still nice to have. Would be nice to see more good devices in that space.

Sorry, I meant both bluetooth app control and bluetooth aux in. Less wires the better Good that app control works wirelessly though. Almost there!

It has a guitar and bass amp sim. You can only choose between the 2, and they are quite basic.

When you're in the app, you can choose between the guitar/bass amp and the option of turning it off and on.

There is also another section for the EQ, where you choose between the darkglass EQ and a graphic eq (again with an on/off toggle)
